Artificer
Base Class: Artificer

Aetherology Experts

Hailing from scholarly lands such as Sharlayan and Thavnair, Sages are scholars who have spent much of their lives in the world of academia, researching aether in all its forms. Its through this methodical life style that they were able to create cutting edge magitek, the Nouliths, tools which could change the magical world.

Tool Proficiency

3rd-level Sage feature

You gain proficiency with cartographer’s tools. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan’s tools of your choice.

Sage Spells

3rd-level Sage feature

You always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Sage Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don’t count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Nouliths

3rd-level Sage feature

You have learned to create magical floating weapons known as nouliths. Using tinker's tools or smith’s tools, you may spend 8 hours to create a set of four nouliths that can be stored like a normal weapon. You can only have one set of nouliths at a time.

When wielded, the nouliths will float around you, controlled by your magic and will. They are considered magical weapons that deal 1d8 force damage and have a range of 20/60 feet. When you attack with your nouliths you can add your Intelligence modifier, instead of Strength or Dexterity, to the attack and damage rolls.

You can take an action to deploy one of your nouliths. Once you've deployed a noulith, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest or until you expend a spell slot to deploy another. You can’t deploy another noulith while one is already deployed.

While deployed, the noulith counts as a tiny magical object. It has an AC of 18 and a number of hit points equal to five times your artificer level. It is immune to poison damage and psychic damage. If it is forced to make an ability check or a saving throw, treat all its ability scores as 10 (+0). If the mending spell is cast on it, it regains 2d6 hit points. The noulith returns to you if it is reduced to 0 hit points or after 1 hour. You can return it early as an action.

When you deploy a noulith, you can enhance it. You decide which type the enhancement is, choosing from the options on the Noulith Enhancements table. On each of your turns, you can take a bonus action to cause the deployed noulith to activate if you are within 60 feet of it. As part of the same bonus action, you can direct the deployed noulith to hover or climb up to 15 feet to an unoccupied space.

Noulith Enhancements

Enhancement
Activation

Offense

The deployed noulith exhales fire in an adjacent 15-foot cone that you designate. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC, taking 2d8 fire damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful one. The fire ignites any flammable objects in the area that aren’t being worn or carried.

Control

Make a ranged spell attack, originating from the deployed noulith, at one creature or object within 120 feet of it. On a hit, the target takes 2d8 force damage, and if the target is a creature, it is pushed up to 5 feet away from the noulith.

Support

The deployed noulith emits a burst of positive energy that grant itself and each creature of your choice within 10 feet of it a number of temporary hit points equal to 1d8 + your Intelligence modifier (minimum of +1).

Eukrasia

5th-level Sage feature

You know how to upgrade your nouliths using Eukrasia, allowing you to use them a conduit for your destructive spells. When you finish a long rest, you can upgrade your Nouliths. The upgrade lasts indefinitely.

You can use your nouliths as a spellcasting focus for your artificer spells. When you cast an artificer spell through the nouliths, roll a d8, and you gain a bonus to one of the spell’s damage rolls equal to the number rolled.

Hypercharge

9th-level Sage feature

Every noulith you deploy is more destructive:

  • The deployed noulith's damage rolls all increase by 1d8.
  • As an action, you can command the deployed noulith to hypercharge if you are within 60 feet of it. Doing so returns the noulith and forces each creature within 20 feet of it to make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC, taking 3d8 force damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful one.

Panhaima

15th-level Sage feature

You’re a master at forming well-defended emplacements using deployed noulith:

  • You and your allies have half cover while within 10 feet of your deployed noulith, as a result of a shimmering field of magical protection that the noulith emits.
  • You can now have two nouliths deployed at the same time. You can deploy two with the same action (but not the same spell slot), and you can activate both of them with the same bonus action. You can’t deploy a third noulith while you have two deployed.
