Base Class: Fighter
In a dire sparing battle with your rival, you were disarmed and almost defeated. This lead you to grab your fallen shield in a somersault as a way to defend yourself. You began to block attacks and then take advantage of your stuns to deal more damage. In your victory, you began to appreciate what a shield can do.
It is more than just armor, you realize it can be used to strike down and rush foes. This fighting style can be mastered, and you have made it your work to do so.
My Shield Is My Weapon
Beginning when you choose this archetype at 3rd level, gain the ability to fight with shields.
This gives you proficiency with shields. You also gain the Shield Master feat.
Momentary Defense
Starting at 7th level, you can plant your shield on the ground as a reaction to an attack.
This grants you 1+AC against that attack.
This granted AC increases as your technique increases: at 10th level, this increases to 2+AC, at 15th level, this increases to 3+AC, at 18th level, this increases to 4+AC.
Additional Shield Fighting Style
At 10th level, you can choose a second option from the Fighting Style class feature.
Defense
While you are wearing armor, you gain a +1 bonus to AC.
Protection
When a creature you can see attacks a target other than you that is within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll. You must be wielding a shield.
Critical Defense
Starting at 15th level, all critical hits become normal hits against you.
Your technique and skill has granted you bonuses in STR and DEX, as well as twice proficiency in Shields. Your melee attacks also do piercing.
Survivor
At 18th level, you attain the pinnacle of resilience in battle. At the start of each of your turns, you regain hit points equal to 5 + your Constitution modifier if you have no more than half of your hit points left. You don’t gain this benefit if you have 0 hit points.
