Monk
Base Class: Monk

Not all monks hone their ki to fight. Some, especially those who know the great cost of violence first-hand, seek ways to use martial arts as a path to peace, only raising their fists to protect the innocent. The Blue Lotus Monastery has been a refuge for lost souls in Davor Calaig for generations. From its hilltop home in the forest, the monks of the Blue Lotus espouse a restorative philosophy that rehabilitates wayward warriors, transforming them into peace-bringers. Most Blue Lotus disciples set out on a pilgrimage to impart these peaceful teachings unto the people of the continent as a final step in their training, testing the tenets of the monastery against the harsh truths of the world.

Path of the Peacemaker

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, your empathic abilities and special martial arts training let you channel your ki to protect your allies and quickly end conflict. You gain proficiency in the Persuasion and Insight skills if you did not already have them, as well as the following benefits.

Lotus Deflection. When a creature within 5 feet of you is targeted by an attack, you can use your reaction to expend 1 ki point and attempt to deflect it. Roll a Martial Arts die and subtract the number rolled from the attack, potentially causing it to miss. You can use this feature after knowing whether the attack would hit.

This feature extends to include Deflect Missiles, allowing you to intercept ranged weapon attacks made against nearby allies. If you catch a projectile in this way, you can immediately redirect the attack as described in the feature without expending a ki point. In this instance, causing a ranged weapon attack to miss its target counts as reducing its damage to 0.

The range of Lotus Deflection extends to include creatures within 10 feet of you when you reach level 9 in this class and to 15 feet of you when you reach level 15 in this class.

Pinpoint Punch. Once per turn, you can focus your ki on a single pinpoint strike. Spend 1 ki point to roll a Martial Arts die and add it to an attack roll using a monk weapon or an unarmed strike. If you forgo taking a bonus action on your turn, you can use this feature without expending a ki point.

Defensive Guidance. You can share your defensive mastery with allies open to your teachings. Once per long rest, you can spend ten minutes with a creature outside of combat teaching them the basis of the Blue Lotus stance. The next time that creature rolls initiative, it gains a +2 bonus to its AC. This effect lasts for one minute.

Calming Presence

At 6th level, you learn to extend your ki over a group of people to have a more peaceful conversation. Once per long rest, you can cast the spell Calm Emotions using your ki save DC for the saving throw.

Additionally, you have an innate sense for aggression simmering beneath the surface of a creature's mind. Whenever you make a Wisdom (Insight) roll to determine whether a creature is hostile to you or your allies, you can roll the ability check with advantage.

Give Peace a Chance

At 11th level, your words gain a piercing quality that inserts doubt into the mind of aggressors. As an action, you can expend 3 ki points to call out to a creature within 60 feet that understands your spoken language and is hostile to you or your allies in an attempt to talk them down. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw against your ki save DC. The DM may decide to make this roll at disadvantage depending on the content of your remarks. On a failed save, the creature makes all attacks against you and your allies with disadvantage until the end of your next turn. Creatures immune to charm are not affected by this ability.

Lotus Soul

At 17th level, your mastery of ki extends to that of your allies.

Whenever a creature within 60 feet of you makes a saving throw and fails, you can use your reaction to spend 1 ki point to force it to reroll and take the second result.
