Artificer
Base Class: Artificer

The builders and engineers of cities often go unappreciated for the things they build. While their work is not beautiful or exotic, it is sturdy and it stands the test of time. Most important, their work protects those in need. Such is your focus, though your canvas is not buildings but machines.

Tool Proficiency

You gain proficiency with smith's tools. If you already have this tool proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan's tools of your choice.

Bulwark Spells

You always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Bulwark Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don't count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Pop-up Pallisade

You provide cover on the battlefield for your allies. As a standard action, you can lay down a 5-foot wide block of half cover that persists until you recall it. Recalling a palisade can occur as a bonus action if you occupy a space adjacent to it.

You have a number of these palisades equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum 1).

Sudden Fortification

Beginning at level 5, you gain the ability to deploy a 15-foot long, 15-foot high fortification as an action. The fortification has 50 hit points and cannot be moved once it is placed.

You may use this ability once per short rest.

Improved Palisades

At 9th level, the design for your palisade is vastly improved. Instead of providing half cover, it now provides three-quarter cover.

Offensive Capabilities

At level 15, your portable fortification develops damaging capabilities. As a bonus action, you can fire a fusillade from in a straight line. The fusillade travels in a straight line 30-feet long and 10-feet wide. All creatures caught in its path must succeed at a Dexterity save or suffer 8d6 fire damage. On a successful save, the target takes half damage.

You can use this ability once per long rest. You regain use of this ability again following a long rest.
