School of Arcanology

The school of arcanology focuses on the magic behind the magic.  While other schools are devoted to a particular school of spells, arcanists are masters of all magic.

Magical Knowledge

2nd level School of Arcanology feature

You gain proficiency in the History and Arcana skills. Also, you double your proficiency modifier for any check made with either skill.

Expanded Spell Selection

2nd-level College of Arcanology feature

You choose a third wizard spell when you choose spells at this level and every wizard level hereafter.

 

Ritual Mastery

6th-level School of Arcanology feature

You can cast certain spells that do not have the ritual tag as rituals. To qualify, the spell must not deal damage, force a saving throw, heal a target or require an ability check from you (like Dispel Magic). The casting time of a spell cast like this is 10 minutes plus an additional 10 minutes for every level of the spell. You must still provide all material components for the spell.

Spells of level 6 or higher cannot be cast in this way.

Magical Versatility

10th-level School of Arcanology feature

Your deep understanding of the philosophy of magic affords you a measure of versatility. When you cast a spell, you can use a bonus action to alter one part of the spell. Choose one of the features below:

• You can change the damage type of the spell to any other damage type.
• You can change a ranged attack spell into a melee attack spell or a melee attack spell into a ranged attack spell with a range of 90 feet.
• You can make the spell count as a level 9 spell for the purposes of countering or dispelling.
• You can add your proficiency modifier to any ability check the spell requires.

 

Free Magic

14th-level School of Arcanology feature

You have a knack for casting spells of all types, even ones you didn't prepare for the day.  You can use an appropriate spell slot to cast a spell of spell level three or lower that you do not have prepared as if you had prepared it.  You can do this once, then you must finish a short or long rest before you can do so again.
