Monk
Base Class: Monk

The Way of the Ki Blocker is a disorganized one. There is no exact set creed or ethos. There is simply an idea. Magic may fix most problems, but it also is typically the cause of those very problems. As a Ki Blocker, your place may seem violent or extreme. It is simply a misunderstood path of balance. Most of your life may be spent in quiet contemplation. But every now and then, someone steps out of line. Perhaps the local bard is a bit too charming. Perhaps some bandits have moved into the area and have a sorcerer with them. Or perhaps a necromancer begins to threaten the entire region with their experiments. Regardless, your objective is the same. Wherever someone abuses their power, you bring them to face justice. This may be a court hearing, or cold vigilantism.

Constrict the Flow

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can manipulate your enemy’s ki when you harness your own. Whenever you hit a creature with one of the attacks granted by your Flurry of Blows, you can impose one of the following effects on that target:

  • Upon striking various pressure points, you attempt to disrupt the targets hand-eye coordination. The target must must succeed on a CON saving throw against your Ki save DC or gain disadvantage on weapon and spell attack rolls till the end of your next turn.
  • Sending a pulse through the targets nervous system, you disrupt their ability to protect themselves. The target must make a CON saving throw against your Ki save DC or gain disadvantage against the next saving throw it makes before the end of your next turn.
  •  A series of rapid strikes daze your target and interfere with their ability to focus. The target must make a CON saving throw against your Ki save DC or gain disadvantage in WIS (perception) and WIS (insight) ability checks till the end of your next turn. Additionally, the first time your target forces any creature to make a saving throw, that creature gains advantage on that saving throw. This lasts till the end of your next turn.
  • A strong central strike diminishes your targets reaction time. Your target cannot take reactions till the end of your next turn.

Due to their strange nature, these abilities have no effect on constructs or undead.

Expand the Flow

At 6th level, you can take a moment to redirect the flow of Ki within your body, enabling yourself to push past your normal boundaries. As a bonus action, you can tap into your Ki flow and temporarily redirect it. You can recover a number of Ki points equal to half your monk level rounded down. Once you use this feature, it cannot be used again until you finish a long rest.

Siphon the Flow

Beginning at 11th level, your unarmed strikes sap your targets ki and empower you. Your attacks can now drain spell casters of their powers. When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can expend 3 Ki points and have your target undergo one of the following effects:

  • Your target must make a WIS saving throw against your Ki save DC. On a failure, the target expends spell slots equal to a roll of your martial arts die. If a target cannot meet the required spell slot, they expend their lowest available slot instead (ex. If you roll a 4, the target can either expend a 4th level spell slot or two 2nd level spell slots, their choice. If you roll a 1, and they have no 1st level slots, the target expends their lowest available spell slot.) You also gain temporary hit points equal to 5 x the level of the expended spell slot.
  • Your target must make a CON saving throw against your Ki save DC or become blinded. On a failed save, you also gain 15 temporary hit points. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of it's turns, ending the effect on a success.
  • Your target must make a CON saving throw against your Ki save DC or become deafened. On a failed save, you also gain 15 temporary hit points. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of it's turns, ending the effect on a success.

Once a target has succeeded against a saving throw against a use of this feature, it is immune to that use for 24 hours.  Additionally, you have learned to find the flow of Ki in all things. Your Ki Blocker features now affect undead and constructs.

Sever the Flow

At 17th level, you gain the ability to sever the flow of Ki running through a creature.

When you hit with an unarmed strike, you can spend 8 ki points and force your target to make a CON saving throw against your Ki save DC or suffer one of the following effects of your choice.

• The target loses access to any spellcasting and spell-like abilities (at DMs discretion). This effect lasts till the target completes a long rest. It can also be ended early with a Greater Restoration or Wish spell.

• If the target is attuned to any magical items, the attunement to one is severed. The item is chosen randomly or determined by the DM. The target can no longer attune to any magical items. This effect lasts for 7 days, but can be ended early with a Greater Restoration or Wish spell.

• If the target has access to any legendary actions or legendary resistances, they lose access to a single use of that feature. This effect lasts until the target finishes a long rest. A Greater Restoration or Wish spell can also end this effect early.
