Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

Paladins who vow the Oath of Silence are fiersome slayers who focus their attention on spellcasters and magic-users, who would cause the paladin or their allies harm. Often mysterious, silent and stoic defenders of civilians are sometimes seen as monsters. Their unwillingness on delving into personal matters grouped together with how they might seem ruthless, as even the eldest and weakest members of community might appear to them as a threat, equals to the dislike towards the paladins who swear this oath.

TENETS OF SILENCE

The core tenets of the Oath of Silence have been birthed through civilizations that have been abused and wracked by magical catastrophies, or by terrible archmages and necromancers who abuse their powers. As there are many sects to the Oath of Silence, they all follow these core tenets:

Silence. Do not allow spellcasters to learn the ways to manipulate you. If you suspect someone a spellcaster with nefarious intent, the less they know about your person, the better.

Necessary Ruthlessness. Gilded fables of paladins and knights present them fighting against demons and undead. Your part of this fable is far more grizzly, when faced with a physically weak opponent who adorns no armor, do not hesitate to land your strike.

Restless Vigil. Be aware, that everything you perceive might be a carefully planted illusion. Question the logic of the world around you, make it certain that you are not under the charms of someone else.

Control. Decide on the trustworthiness of artifacts you come across. Can they be used to rid the world of evil, or do they turn you into an instrument of chaos? Same applies to people around you. Are they capable of controlling their powers and if they are, are they mature enough to control their spells and arcane magics?

Frozen Arcana

When you choose this subclass, an area of dead arcana and magic begin to linger on your body. To any intelligence-based spellcasters (such as wizards and sorcerers) this manifests as terrible signs of doom, unrest and terror.

Frozen Arcana Effect
d6 Appearance
1 When healing a target with any healing spells, or with your Lay on Hands feature, if the target is a spellcaster they feel the new lifeforce as cold and eerie instead of warm and soothing.
2 To any spellcasters, your eyes seem cloudy and colorless.
3 Any spellcasters sense the area around you as oppressing and heavy.
4 Spellcasters who have been in direct contact with you often have nightmares of your first meeting afterwards
5 The unnatural shield of destroyed arcane shields you from simple environmental effects, such as the fall of rain or snow.
6 You have permanently lost the ability to dream while sleeping. Your sleep most often consists of a blank void, a rest to fill in your thoughts.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Befall Silence - As an action, force a creature that is within 30 ft. of you to make a WIS saving throw. On failure, it is silenced and cannot cast any spells that require verbal components. It repeats this saving throw at the end of its turn, ending the effect on a success.

You can end this effect on your turn as part of any other action. If you fall unconscious, this effect ends.

Punishing Reflection - As a reaction, present your holy symbol between you and a spellcaster and add +5 to your AC when you are targeted by a ranged spell attack. If the additional AC would be enough to block the spell, it is reflected back to the caster instead, dealing half of the damage to them. The AC increase lasts until the beginning of your next round, but does not function like this again unless another Channel Divinity is used.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.

Oath of Silence Spells

Aura of Oppression

You carry with you a silent and stoic aura that spells doom for any spellcaster. At level 7 you can as an reaction try to stop any spell that you can see being made within 15t. of you. The spellcaster must first pass a Wisdom Saving throw made against your Spell Save DC. If they fail at the save, the spell fizzles out and does nothing and the spell slot is wasted.

At level 18, this aura increases by an additional 15 ft.

Burning Arcana

At level 15, when you hit an enemy with Divine Smite you can additionally force them to usetheir spellslot without the spellslot doing anything, equal to the level of the spellslot you used to cast Divine Smite.

Additionally, you regain health twice the level of the spellslot.

Avatar of Extremities

At 20th level, you become an unshakeable and uncorruptable avatar of pure will. For 1 minute, you gain the following benefits:

  • Whenever you become the target of a spell that requires a Wisdom Saving Throw, you succeed at it automatically.
  • Any spell beneath 6th spell level targeted by your Aura of Oppression is automatically countered.

Once you've used this feature, you cannot use it again until you've finished a long rest.
