The major tenets of a Chem Barron are to be cunning, ambitious and to strive for perfection. Chem Baron's or Baroness's experiment with powerful fumes of poison and dangerous vials of acid that can kill even those who think themselves immune to its toxicity. Although such power comes with a price as those who create these weapons and spells of destruction are often shunned and feared, and can find themselves walking down a dark path.

Tool Proficiency

3rd-level Alchemist feature

You gain proficiency with alchemist’s supplies. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan’s tools of your choice.

Chem Baron Spells

3rd-level Chem Baron

You always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Chem Baron table. You also learn the Poison Spray cantrip, and for you, it has a range of 30 feet. In addition, if you cast Poison Spray, the spell can target two creatures if they are within 5 feet of each other.

3rd-level Chem Baron feature

You are cunning, even manipulative at times. As a result, whenever you make a Charisma check, you gain a bonus to the check equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of +1). In addition, you gain proficiency in one of the following skills of your choice: Deception, Intimidation, or Persuasion.

Inevitable Results

5th-level Chem Baron feature

You've developed masterful command of magical chemicals, enhancing the damage you create through them. Whenever you cast a spell using your alchemist’s supplies as the spellcasting focus, you gain a bonus to one roll of the spell and the damage ignores resistances. That roll must be a damage roll that deals acid, fire, necrotic, or poison damage, and the bonus equals your Intelligence modifier (minimum of +1).

Chemical Infection

9th-level Chem Baron feature

Your spells can infect a target, making them valuable to further damage:

  • When you damage a creature with a spell that deals acid, fire, necrotic, or poison damage, you can choose to infect that creature for 1 minute. While infected, the creature takes an additional 1d6 necrotic damage if it is hit by an attack. At the end of the creature's subsequent turns, can make a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC, ending its infection on a success. This feature can't be used against undead or constructs. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Last Laugh

15th-level Chem Baron feature

You have been exposed to so many chemicals that they pose little risk to you, and you know how to have the last laugh, no matter how dire the situation:

  • You gain resistance to acid damage and poison damage, and you are immune to the poisoned condition.
  • If you are reduced to 0 hit points or are incapacitated against your will, you immediately cast the cloudkill spell at a 9th level centred on yourself and gain 1 hit point. You can choose up to six creatures that you can see to be immune to the negative effects of the spell when you cast it, which can include yourself. The spell lasts 1d4 rounds and does not require concentration to maintain. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
