Base Class: Fighter

"A blade is not forged in a single strike. Neither is a warrior."

-The Hammer's Lessons

Most warriors seek victory.

The Everforged seek refinement.

To them, every exchange is another lesson, every mistake another hammer strike, every triumph another pass of the whetstone. They do not believe perfection is achieved—it is pursued. The Steel Path teaches that a warrior is shaped not by the battles they survive, but by what they learn from each one.

An Everforged does not cling to a single technique. They shift seamlessly between measured aggression, disciplined patience, precise movement, and centered stillness. Each stance is another lesson, each lesson another step along the Steel Path.

In time, the distinction between warrior and weapon disappears.

The body becomes the forge.

The mind becomes the hammer.

The spirit becomes Living Steel.

Level 3: The Steel Path

You learn the four teachings of the Steel Path, each embodied by a distinct combat stance. Each lesson prepares you for a different challenge. Refinement comes not from clinging to a single form, but from knowing when one lesson must give way to another.

While in a combat stance, you gain Edge whenever you successfully apply its teachings, up to a maximum number equal to your Wisdom modifier + 1 (minimum of 1).

As a bonus action, you can spend 1 Edge to adopt a different stance, immediately replacing the benefits of your current stance with those of the new one. Edge lasts for 1 minute or until spent.

Stoke the Embers

You adopt this stance by taking the Attack or Help action. While in this stance, you add your proficiency bonus to the damage rolls of your weapon attacks or unarmed strikes. You gain 1 Edge whenever one of your attacks hits.

Quench the Steel

You adopt this stance by taking the Dodge or Disengage action. While in this stance, your Armor Class increases by an amount equal to half your proficiency bonus (rounded down). You gain 1 Edge whenever a creature misses you with an attack.

Keep the Measure

You adopt this stance by taking the Dash or Hide action. While in this stance, your speed increases by a number of feet equal to five times your proficiency bonus. You gain 1 Edge for every 20 feet you move without interruption.

Return to Center

You adopt this stance after 10 minutes without adopting another stance. The first time you take damage while in this stance, you gain 1 Edge.

Level 3: The Anvil's Reply

Every strike reveals something about the one who delivered it. Through the Steel Path, you learn to exploit those moments of insight before they pass.

When you take damage from a creature hostile to you, you can use your reaction and spend 1 Edge to impose disadvantage on the next attack roll, ability check, or saving throw that creature makes.

Level 7: The Vanishing Seam

The distinction between lesson and technique has disappeared. The teachings of the Steel Path flow together until the transition itself becomes part of the technique.

When you adopt a combat stance as a bonus action, you can also take one of the actions associated with that stance as part of the same bonus action. If you choose the Attack action in this way, you can make only one weapon attack.

Level 10: Tempered Form

Refinement is measured not by sharper technique, but by what remains when the trial has passed. Every lesson along the Steel Path has shaped the one who walks it.

When you adopt a new combat stance, you can spend Edge to temporarily gain additional benefits while in the new stance for each Edge spent.

Stoke the Embers. The damage bonus is doubled for the next number of attacks equal to the number of extra Edge spent.

Quench the Steel. Gain temporary hit points equal to your Fighter Level multiplied by the number of extra Edge spent until the start of your next turn.

Keep the Measure. Gain an additional bonus to movement speed equal to 5 times the number of extra edge spent until the end of your turn.

Level 15: The Edge Within

The finest edge is not found upon the steel, but in the eye that follows the grain. Each success reveals that edge, sharpening every lesson that follows.

Adopting a new combat stance as a bonus action no longer requires 1 Edge. Additionally, you gain 1 Edge whenever you succeed on a roll made with advantage while in combat.

Level 18: Living Steel

Steel remembers steel. Nothing that shapes it is ever truly left behind.

The persistent benefit granted by a combat stance is no longer removed immediately when you adopt another stance and instead remains active until the start of your next turn.

Level 18: Begin Again

The lessons of the forge are not meant to be carried forever. When the work is finished, the wise smith lays aside the hammer, returns to center, and begins again.

While in a combat stance other than Return to Center, you can adopt the Return to Center stance as an action, releasing all of your Edge in the process. For each point of Edge released, you regain one expended use of Second Wind, Action Surge, or Indomitable. Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest.
