Base Class: Monk
Monks of the Way of the Iaidoka are practitoners of Iai, an ancient weapon drawing technique. They specialize in reading their opponents, dodging, and countering their attacks.
Iaijutsu
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you master the use of katanas (longswords) and learn to draw your weapon at incredible speeds. You gain the following abilities:
Blade Mastery. You gain proficiency with katanas (longswords) if you do not already have it and they are counted as monk weapons for you.
Iai Strike. Your first strike each combat has advantage and deals an additional two times your martial die as slashing damage.
Iai Counter. After using the dodge action or patient defense monk ability, you are able to use your reaction to make an Iai Strike against an enemy in range that attacks you before the start of your next turn. If the creature misses you with the attack, you make this strike with advantage.
Infused Iai Strike. You can spend 1 Ki point to deal an additional two times your martial die as part of an Iai Strike or Iai Counter.
Springstep
At 6th level, you learn the importance of seizing the initiative in combat and develop the ability to lunge forward as part of your Iai strike. You gain the following benefits:
First to Strike. You have advantage on initiative rolls.
Step-in. As part of your Iai Strike you may move up to half your movement speed rounded down.
Foresight
At 11th level, you've trained your eyes as well as your body, allowing you to gain insight on others by focusing intently on their every movement. As a bonus action your attention focuses on all creatures within 30 feet of you, granting advantage on insight checks and +3 to AC against all attacks by creatures within 30 feet of you until the start of your next turn. You may use this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.
Honed Body
At 17th level, you've trained your body and mind to the limit, making the speed of your Iai strikes unrivaled and lethally precise. Your Iai Strikes now crit on a roll of 18 or higher.
