Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Where other barbarians rely on brute strength and raw power, the Mongoose allows their rage to guide them preternaturally through combat with speed and grace.

Spirit of the Mongoose

At 3rd level, when you adopt this path, you choose the spirit of the Mongoose and gain its features. You must get a tattoo, ritual scarring, or similar feature of the Mongoose to signify your spiritual connection.

Grace of the Mongoose

At 3rd level, you gain the benefits of Rage and Reckless Attack from Dexterity based attacks rather than Strength.

Ferocious Rage

Your kinship with the Mongoose has given you the ability to channel its speed and ferocity when you enter a rage.

At 6th level  you can tap into this power once per long rest as you enter a rage to double your speed,  gain a +2 bonus to AC, gain advantage on Dexterity saving throws, and gain an additional action on each of your turns. That action can be used only to take the Attack (one weapon attack only), Dash, Disengage, Hide, or Use an Object action.

This effect lasts for one minute, until you use a Bonus Action to dismiss it, or you fall unconscious.

Spirit Walker

Your connection to the Spirit of the Mongoose and your own unusual quickness combine to allow you to to step across the planes in times of need. Once per long rest, as an Action, you may begin moving faster than can be contained within the Material Plane, briefly stepping across the Border Ethereal.

Roll a d20 at the end of each of your turns for the duration of the ability. On a roll of 11 or higher, you vanish from your current plane of existence and appear in the Ethereal Plane. At the start of your next turn, and when the ability ends if you are on the Ethereal Plane, you return to an unoccupied space of your choice that you can see within 10 feet of the space you vanished from. If no unoccupied space is available within that range, you appear in the nearest unoccupied space (chosen at random if more than one space is equally near). You can dismiss this ability as a Bonus Action.

While on the Ethereal Plane you can see and hear the plane you originated from, which is cast in shades of gray, and you can't see anything there more than 60 feet away. You can only affect and be affected by other creatures on the Ethereal Plane. Creatures that aren't there can't perceive you or interact with you, unless they have the specific ability to do so.

This effect lasts for one minute, until you use a Bonus Action to dismiss it, or you fall unconscious.

Cornered Animal

While you are raging, you become better at reacting to enemy movements:

  • When an enemy enters your melee range, you may use your Reaction to make an opportunity attack

  • Creatures provoke opportunity attacks from you even if they take the Disengage action before entering or leaving your reach.

  • When you make an opportunity attack, and your target is within your 5 feet of you, you can make two melee attacks against them.
