Monk
Base Class: Monk

The Way of Sorcery is a deeply contemplative study of the nature of magic, not through rote memorization, nor through willful forcing of magic, but by perceiving and intuiting the current and flow of magic itself. New practitioners learn to use ki much like a sorcerer, deflect cantrips as other monks would a spear or stone, while more advanced masters and grand masters gain access to spells from varied magical arts.

Spellcasting

By the time you reach 3rd level, you have learned to use thee contemplative essence of magic to cast spells, much as a sorcerer does. See chapter 10 for the general rules of spellcasting and chapter 11 for the sorcerer spell list.

PREPARING AND CASTING SPELLS: The Ranger table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell's level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest.
You prepare the list of sorcerer spells that are available for you to cast, choosing from the sorcerer spelllist. When you do so, choose a number of sorcerer spells equal to your Wisdom modifier + your monk level (minimum of one spell). The spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots.

CANTRIPS: You learn two cantrips of your choice from the sorcerer spell list. You learn an additional sorcerer cantrip of your choice at 10th level.

SPELLCASTING ABILITY: Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your sorcery spells, since your magic draws on your intuition of the ways of magic. You use your Wisdom whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Wisdom modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a sorcery spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.
Spell save DC ~ 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier
Spell attack modifier ~ your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier

KI SORCERY: You can use ki points and sorcery points (if any) interchangeably, including sacrificing ki to regain spell slots as described for the Sorcerer class (PHB p.101)

METAMAGIC: You learn one metamagic option from the sorcerer's class. You gain another metamagic option at 11th and 17th levels.

Cantrip Deflection

Sensing the flow of magic, and using your hands and feet to subtly disrupt the flow, you learn to deflect lesser magical attacks - cantrips - as other monks would deflect an arrow or axe. Starting at third level, as a reaction to being the target of a cantrip, you roll 1d10 and add your wisdom modifier then deduct the total from the damage inflicted by the spell (after resistances or saving throws, if applicable). If you succeed in negating all damage, you can expend a ki point to deflect the spell onto another target of your choice, including the caster of the cantrip.

Additionally, you are proficient in the Arcana skill if you do not already have it.

Eclectic Learning

Broadening your knowledge of magical spells, at 6th level you learn to cast a 2nd-level spell from any classes' spell list. You may cast this spell once per short rest without expending a spell slot. You may choose to cast this spell using a spell slot, if desired.

Additionally, you gain expertise in the Arcana skill if you do not already have it.

Negating Magic

As an advanced practitioner of sorcerous arts, you have learned to interfere with the flow of magic around others. At 11th level you learn the spells Counterspell and Dispel Magic. You may cast Counterspell without expending a spell slot by expending a ki point instead. If the spell you are countering is higher than 3rd level, you must spend additional ki points equal to the spell-level minus three.

Eclectic Mastery

The greatest masters of the Sorcerous Way are masters of diverse magical arts. At 17th level, select two spells, one 4th level, one 5th level, from any class spell list. You can cast these two spells once each, at their minimum spell-level, without expending a spell slot. You may cast these spells using spell slots if desired. You regain the use of these spells after completing a long rest.
