Monk
Base Class: Monk

Many ways of ki, with many potential applications, have been developed over time. Monks have learned the greatest ways to disable and take down their foes, but some would rather hone their unique power to render themselves a fortress. Focusing on their senses, monks that follow the Way of Defence can more easily take in their surroundings at quickened speeds, allow them to react sooner to incoming threats. Their bodies also eventually become more naturally durable, lessening pain and allowing them to draw in their foes without fear.

Followers of the Way of Defence are more often than not self-taught, either having never been part of a monastery, or rejecting the teachings of those that exist. There may however be some smaller, more secluded monasteries that walk a more peaceful road, imparting onto their monks a value of defence over offence.

Strangely enough, there seem to be no recorded origins for the Way of Defence, as it was likely naturally developed by many a monk in response to outward threats they did not wish to face with the same wrath they were seeing visited among them.

Ki Shield

At 3rd level, when your path on the Way of Defence begins, your ki provides you with natural protection, and you learn how to manipulate the ki in your body to defend yourself. You gain a natural +1 to AC.

You can use your reaction to channel your ki into an energy shield that adds +3 to your AC against the triggering attacker, but you can spend 1 ki point to make the shield last until the start of your next turn.

Upon reaching 17th level in this class, you also gain resistance to all damage when using the ki shield.

Threat Analysis

At 3rd level, you become accustomed to registering the movements of foes around you, allowing you to better ascertain how to avoid or negate strikes in certain situations. Whenever you use Patient Defence/Dodge or Step of the Wind/Disengage/Dash, you add +2 to your AC until the start of your next turn.

Mystic Elusion

At 6th level, having spent time walking the Way of Defence, the ki flowing through your body grants you a natural resistance against magic. You have advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects. If you fail the magical saving throw, you can spend 2 ki points to automatically succeed, three times per long rest.

Taunting Pillar

At 11th level, you have grown experienced with the Way of Defence, and as such, know how to take hits, and manipulate ki in order to goad opponents into coming after you. You gain resistance to Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing damage.

As an action, you can spend 1 ki point to send out an energy wave that forces up to six opponents of your choice in a radius of 60 feet around you to each make a Wisdom saving throw. If they fail, they must only target you for 1 minute. You can voluntarily drop the effect on individual opponents at any time.

The Invincible

At 17th level, you have mastered the Way of Defence, becoming an almost indestructible force. You are immune to being knocked prone, and have advantage against being grappled or restrained. As a bonus action, you can spend 4 ki points to gain immunity to all forms of damage until the start of your next turn. You can do this only once per short rest.
