Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

The Path of the Fool barbarian is a subclass built on the idea of distraction and self-sacrifice. Sometimes, in order to give your party the edge in battle, you must become the bait for the enemies. This subclass is slightly charisma based, as you call and perform to your foes in order to distract them.

Battlefield Actor

At 3rd level, you become something like a jester. You gain proficiency in Charisma(performance) and Charisma(persuasion).

Cause for Distraction

Starting at level 3, your path allows you to become a great distraction on the battlefield. The desire for your enemy to hit you instead of an ally becomes incredibly unavoidable. During your rage, if an enemy tries to target an ally within 5 ft. of you, it must make a WIS saving. The DC for this saving throw is 8 + proficiency bonus + CHA modifier. On a failed save, the enemy must attack you instead.

If the enemy fails the saving throw while making a melee attack, and you are not within its current range, it must use whatever movement it has to get to you. If it has no movement left, it must change its attack to something that will hit you instead. Having not fallen under those specifics, the enemy can continue their attack on the original targeted ally.

Call of the Performer

At 6th level, you gain the ability to make a cry in the midst of battle and distract your enemies. As an action, you can send out a call that will cause your enemies to focus only on you. Upon using this action, all creatures against you within 60 ft. must make a WIS saving throw against an opposed performance ability check. This performance check will become the save DC for the enemies. On a fail, the creature(s) have disadvantage on all attacks or strikes that are not against you. This ability does not work on creatures who cannot hear. This ability lasts until the end of your next turn. You can use this feature once per short rest.

Attuned Practice

At 10th level, because of your hard work and practice in the arts of distraction and sacrifice, you gain expertise in the charisma(performance) ability.

The Fool's Inspiration

At 10th level, after an enemy hits you with an attack, you can take inspiration from their style and use it in your next move. While raging, as a reaction you can halve the damage dealt against you, and use that halved (rounded down) damage on your next attack. The damage type is the same as the weapon you are using. This ability can build off of natural and rage resistances.

For example: An enemy hits you with a club, dealing 24 damage. While raging, you have resistance to bludgeoning damage, so you would take 12 damage instead. Now you use The Fools Inspiration, halving the damage to 6 damage against you. Now, on your next attack you deal an additional 6 damage.

This ability can be used three times per long rest.

Ultimate Sacrifice

Sacrificing yourself for the people around you gives them a reason to push forward and do better. When you're brought to less than half your hit points after using your Cause for Distraction and/or Call of the Performer abilities, you can grant inspiration to you party. The inspiration given after taking damage to less than half your hit points lasts for 1 minute.

  • If your brought to less than half your hit points after using Cause for Distraction, whoever you saved with that ability gains inspiration. Inspiration will cause their next chosen: attack roll, saving throw, or ability check to have advantage.
  • If your brought to less than half your hit points after using Call of the Performer, you may choose who the inspiration goes to. The person must have been in sight of you taking that damage. Inspiration will cause their next chosen: attack roll, saving throw, or ability check to have advantage.

If you are struck unconscious after using the Cause for Distraction and/or Call of the Performer abilities, then all allies who saw you fall unconscious gain inspiration. Inspiration will cause their next: attack roll, saving throw, or ability check to have advantage. The inspiration given after falling unconscious lasts for 10 minutes.
