Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks who train in the way of the Thundering Storm harness the destructive nature of tempests in their fighting. They shake the ground with their steps, and strike as fast as lightning. The power within them can be catastrophic, and their fury can end fights in a flash. If you ever meet one trained in the way of the Thundering Storm- take warning, and respect them as the force of nature they are.

Storm's Presence

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in the Intimidation skill if you don't already have it, as your voice and posture embody the force and power of the storm. You also gain proficiency with the drum if you don't already have it.

Strike Like Lightning

Also at 3rd level, you learn to channel ki within your body to move as fast as lightning, causing a clap of thunder to erupt from your consecutive attacks. When you use your flurry of blows, you can spend 1 additional ki point to deal additional Thunder damage equal to your Wisdom Modifier (minimum of 1) with each attack.

Thunderstruck Form

At 6th level, your body is constantly flowing with an abundance of static energy. You gain resistance to lightning damage, and when you take damage from a creature that is within 5 feet of you, you can spend 1 ki point to use your reaction to cause a crack of Thunder that can be heard up to 100 feet away.
Each creature within 5 feet of you must make a Dexterity saving throw equal to 11 + your Wisdom Modifier, or take thunder damage equal to 1 roll of your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom Modifier (minimum of 1) against that creature.
If you spend 1 additional ki point, your retaliative thunder can push them up to 10 feet away from you.

Fist of the Tempest

At 11th level, you can attack with the full force of a thunderstorm. When you take the attack action, you can spend 4 ki points to cast the Lightning Bolt spell from your unarmed strike without material components.  The DC is equal to 12 + your Wisdom modifier (Minimum of 1). You can only use this feature once per turn.

Thunder God's Armor

At 17th level, you can spend 2 ki points as an action to form an aura of protective lightning around you that grows stronger the more you infuse your ki into it. This aura extends 10 feet from you in every direction. It lasts for 1 minute, and while it is active you can choose to spend 2 more ki points each turn as a bonus action to activate more features. You gain the following benefits:

  • 2 total ki points: you gain a flying speed of 30 feet.
  • 4 total ki points: you gain temporary hit points equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die + your Wisdom Modifier (minimum of 1).
  • 6 total ki points: you gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from non-magical attacks.
