Base Class: Sorcerer
Gunwitches are magic users, however, if left undeveloped their magic almost never manifests, That is, until they are inspired to forge and bond with their Witchlock pistols. Similar to Sorcerers, Gunwitches seem to be born with magical talent, but it is a talent that requires lived-experience. Due to their strong desire to project their magic through their Witchlock Pistols, and their hours of handling them, their innate sorcery can also be used to enhance the effects of these weapons. Unfortunately, their search for fighting experience means they are less effective in the arcane arts than a typical Sorceror.
A Gunwitch starts at level 1 with one Witchlock Pistol, and is capable of crafting and attuning to more. Crafting takes a full day, and uses magical components costing 200gp, and the Gunwitch must make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 15) to succeed or ruin the components during construction. Only a Gunwitch can attune to a Witchlock Pistol, which only takes one round, and the attuned weapon becomes a magical extension of the Gunwitch. However, while many Gunwitches carry spare pistols, they can still only attune to a limited number of such magical items.
Witchlock Pistol
Witchlock Pistols are arcane focuses that convert sorcerous energy into raw force.
They have the range of a Longbow, and at level 1 a Gunwitch can use them to deliver d10 Force damage.
Each Witchlock Pistol is a unique magical item that can only be attuned to by a Gunwitch.
Sorcerous Impact
The Gunwitch is able to expend Sorcery Points to deal extra damage with a Witchlock Pistol.
Pistol Metamagic
If the Gunwitch knows specific Metamagics, they can apply them to their Witchlock Pistol attacks:
- Distant Spell doubles the range of Witchlock Pistol attacks, for 1 Sorcery Point.
- Empowered Spell allows for re-rolls on Witchlock Pistol damage, for 1 Sorcery Point.
- Quickened Spell allows a Witchlock Pistol attack to be performed as a Bonus Action, for 2 Sorcery Points.
- Twinned Spell allows a Witchlock Pistol attack to strike two different targets, for as many Sorcery Points as the number of d10 that would be rolled for damage.
Sorcerous Aim
The Gunwitch is skilled with their Witchlock Pistol and can make impossible shots. By spending 1 Sorcery Point they gain the following benefits:
- Attacking at long range doesn't impose disadvantage on Witchlock Pistol attack rolls.
- Witchlock Pistol attacks ignore half cover and three-quarters cover.
- If the Witchlock Pistol attack hits add +10 to damage.
- Witchlock Pistol attacks ignore the Damage Threshold ratings of objects.
