Base Class: Artificer
Travel is important in every world. Some do their travel by horse, others by foot, some by magic. The Artificers known as Steel Surfers prefer an alternative method: a plank of steel powered by arcane energy. These Kinesis Boards, as they have come to be called, are quick, lightweight, and serve as an express ticket to a lightning fast beatdown for those that stand in the way of the Steel Surfer.
Tools of the Trade
When you adopt this specialization at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with Martial Weapons. You also gain proficiency with smith's tools. If you already have this tool proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan's tools of your choice.
Steel Surfer Spells
Starting at 3rd level, you always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Steel Surfer Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don't count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.
Steel Surfer Spells
| Artificer Level | Steel Surfer Spells |
|---|---|
| 3rd | Longstrider, Zephyr Strike |
| 5th | Gust of Wind, Kinetic Jaunt |
| 9th | Haste, Wind Wall |
| 13th | Freedom of Movement, Locate Creature |
| 17th | Control Winds, Passwall |
Kinesis Board
Starting at the third level, your smithing has given birth to the future of transportation. At the end of a long rest, you can create your Kinesis Board, provided you have Smiths tools on hand. As an action, you can call your Kinsesis Board to you, so long as it is within 30 feet of you. You can mount it as part of this action.
While mounted, you gain the following benefits
•Your Walking Speed increases by 10 feet and you float 1 foot off of solid ground, ignoring difficult terrain that solely effects the ground.
•Your Jump Height is automatically set at 15 feet if it is not greater than that, and when you jump, you can stay airborne until the end of your turn
•You can take the Dash and Disengage actions as bonus actions
•You do not take falling damage from heights lesser than or equal to ten times your Intelligence Modifier
Dive Bomb
Starting at the third level, you can use your Kinesis Board to crash into someone with frightening force. While at least 15 feet in the air, you can use an action and move up to your walking speed towards a creature that you can see, using the most direct path. If this would place you within 5 feet of the creature, they and all other creatures within 5 feet of you must make a Dexterity Saving Throw against your Artificer Saving Throw DC. Upon a failure, the target takes force damage equal to 1d8, and deals an additional 1 force damage for every 5 feet you moved to get to the creature, half as much if they succeed.
The damage die scales as you gain more levels in Artificer. The damage increases to 2d8 at level 5, 3d8 at level 9 and 4d8 at level 15.
Flyby
Starting at the 5th level, you become exceptionally hard to pin down in the middle of a fight. Creatures you damage on your turn cannot make attacks of opportunity against you.
Arcane Grind
Starting at the 9th level, you learn to turn moments of danger into moments of opportunity for yourself. When you succeed on a Dexterity Saving Throw while on your Kinesis, you can use your reaction to instead take no damage. As part of this reaction, you can move up to half of your walking speed towards the target that forced the saving throw. If you would end up within 5 feet of this target, you can make a melee weapon attack as part of this reaction.
In addition, you have advantage on Saving Throws made to stay on your Kinesis Board, and can add your Intelligence Modifier to such saving throws
Terminal Velocity
Starting at the 15th level, you perfect the build of your Kinesis Board. You gain the following benefits
• The bonus to your walking speed increases from 10 to 20 feet
• Dive Bomb knocks targets prone that fail the saving throw.
• Arcane Grind can use all of your speed, rather than half.
• While mounted on your Kinesis Board, the board has a flying speed equal to its walking speed (the board can hover), and any Steel Surfer feature that uses your walking speed can use this flying speed.
