Base Class: Sorcerer
The corrupting influence of Ruidium has taken hold of you—but it has not spelled death for you as it has so many others. The residual magic of some long-lost champion, now manifest in the deep red crystalline substance, awoke in you a semblance of its own power, a sort of treacherous symbiosis. Ruidium now resides within your very veins, granting you a source of innate magic and an element of ferocity to your spells—though leaning too much into this power can come at a price.
Ruidium Veins
1st-Level Ruidium Sorcery feature
The ruidium coursing through your body can be used as an arcane focus for your spells.
When utilizing the ruidium within yourself in certain ways to enhance your power as specified in more advanced class features, you risk of becoming corrupted, and must make a Charisma saving throw against your own spell save DC. On a failed saving throw, you gain 1 level of exhaustion (see the Player’s Handbook).
Signs of Corruption
The first physical sign of corruption is a bright red rash, which appears on your body where you first made contact with the ruidium. As the your level of exhaustion increases, the signs of corruption become more obvious, as summarized in the Physical Signs of Ruidium Corruption table. Decreasing your level of exhaustion also reduces the physical signs of corruption—unlike others, your body has the ability to heal from Ruidium Corruption.
| Exhaustion Level |
Physical Signs |
|---|---|
| 1 | A red rash appears, originating from the point of contact with ruidium. |
| 2 | Pulsing crimson veins spread across your skin. |
| 3 | Crimson blisters and boils appear on your skin. |
| 4 | Stubby spurs of ruidium crystal protrude from your body. |
| 5 | Your crystal protrusions grow larger and more grotesque. |
| 6 | The corruption kills you. |
Crimson Endurance
1st-Level Ruidium Sorcery feature
Starting at 1st level, the ruidium coursing through your body makes you difficult to defeat. When damage reduces you to 0 hit points, you can make a Charisma saving throw (DC 5 + the damage taken). On a success, you instead drop to 1 hit point. You can’t use this feature if you are reduced to 0 hit points by a critical hit.
After the saving throw succeeds, you can’t use this feature again until you finish a long rest. After doing so, you must roll to see if you gain a level of Ruidium Corruption.
Ruidus Fury
6th-Level Ruidium Sorcery feature
You have gained the ability to harness the ruidium inside of you to maximize the potential of your magic. Whenever a spell you cast deals damage to one or more creatures, you may spend 4 sorcery points to deal maximum damage. After doing so, you must roll to see if you gain a level of Ruidium Corruption.
Ruidium Skin
14th-Level Ruidium Sorcery feature
You gain the ability to grow ruidium crystals on your body to harden your defenses.
Whenever you are hit by an attack, you may use your reaction to raise your armor class by an amount equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1).
Similarly, whenever you fail a saving throw by a spell, you may use your reaction to re-roll the saving throw. Additionally, if the spell targets only you and you roll a 19 or 20 on the die, the spell rebounds on its caster, who must make a save on their own spell or be affected as if they were the intended target.
After each use of this feature, you must roll to see if you gain a level of Ruidium Corruption.
Ruidium Form
18th-Level Ruidium Sorcery feature
You've mastered the ruidium in your body. You can no longer be affected by Ruidium Corruption, and no longer must make the associated saving throws for your class abilities.
You can spend 6 sorcery points as a bonus action to magically transform yourself into a Ruidium Golem for 10 minutes, granting you its physical stats for the duration. You cannot cast spells in your Ruidium Golem form. It ends early if you are incapacitated, you die, or you dismiss it as a bonus action.
