Base Class: Fighter
Years of training, or a supernatural ability, allowed you to enter a state of absolute concentration. A warrior of the Waterfall has the ability to see their ennemies movements before they even start them. Whether it be in the midst of battle and being able to dodge or parry ennemies attack, or during an interrogation, being able to predict and react to arguments before someone says them out loud, warriors of the Waterfall excels in taking down one enemy rapidly, efficiently, and without being hurt themselves.
Flow
At 3rd level, you can now accumulate Flow in your body, and use new techniques to better slay your ennemies.
Flow is a ressource that takes roots in your ability to deal and fend off damage. The number of Flow you can accumulate is equal to 5. If you get hit by an attack or damaging effect, you lose all Flow accumulated. You have different ways to stack up Flow :
- Hit an Attack grants you one Flow. If this Attack is a Critical hit, you instead gain two stacks of Flow.
- Finally, successfully Parrying an attack also grants you one stack of Flow.
Parry is a new special action that you are able to perform. Whenever you become the target of an attack and get hit, you can try to Parry it. Roll a contested Attack check. If you succeed, you take no damage from this attack. If you fail however, you leave yourself open to this attack, and you take bonus damage equal to half the damage of the attack. You can use Parry a number of time equal to your proficiency bonus each round.
Under the Waterfall
At 3rd level, you gain the ability to build up Flow and slip under the waterfall, feeling every drop of water falling on your skin before they do.
When you successfully hit or Parry an attack, you gain a stack of Flow. After you successfully fill your Flow, you can, as a Bonus action, enter a state called the Waterfall, during which you :
- crit on a 19 or 20,
- can forgo one of your attacks to automatically Parry an incoming attack,
- you gain proficiency in Dexterity Saving Throws,
- gain +2 to your AC.
This state lasts for 3 rounds, but if you take damage, you need to succeed on a Constitution Saving Throw, as if to maintain Concentration. You can also force this state upon your being, however you can only do so 1 times per Short Rest.
Read and Follow
At 7th level, the flow of your body becomes more aligned to the tempo of your ennemies weaknesses.
Whenever you are in the Waterfall state, you gain increased damage for each round spent in the state without taking damage. After one round without taking damage, you can add 1d4 to the damage of your attacks. After two, add 1d6. This bonus damage is lost when your Waterfall state stops.
Your ability to read your adversaries also grow out of combat. You can now enter the state of Waterfall during social situations. If you do that, you gain the following benefits :
- You gain Advantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks.
- You gain a bonus to your Charisma (Persuasion) and Charisma (Deception) checks equal to your proficiency bonus.
- If the discussion escalates into a fight, you will be first in the initiative order and start Combat in the Waterfall state.
Read and Withdraw
At 10th, you now understand which attack it is preferable to avoid rather than take head on.
At the beginning of you turn, you can enter a Defensive Stance as a Bonus Action, during which you gain Advantage on your Parry checks, at the cost of half you movement. While using this stance, if you are in your Waterfall state, you gain advantage on Saving Throws to maintain Concentration.
Cut like Water
At 15th level, your concentration is honed by the battle you fought, allowing your strike to become swift and deadly
During your Waterfall state, you gain 1d4 bonus damage. The bonus damage previously gained with Read and Follow also goes up by one dice size. You can make one additional Attack as a Bonus Action when you are in this state.
Beyond the Waterfall
At 18th level, you have obtained absolute focus, surpassing the Waterfall.
During Waterfall, you can now enter Absolute Focus. This state grants you the following benefits:
- Your attacks automatically crit if they land.
- You can use a successful Parry without forgoing an Attack.
- You gain the max damage of Read and Follow automatically.
This state only lasts one round, and consumes one charge of your Under the Waterfall feature.
