Base Class: Bard
You are a wellspring of information, a book of knowledge just waiting to be opened. You are no expert but can pull out that extra bit of knowledge to pass as one in the right circumstance. Maybe you were a traveling minstrel, seeking new songs to move your listeners to tears. A playwright recreating epic battles or dangerous rescues to entertain. Perhaps you are just a seeker of knowledge and treasure, looking to explore and learn all you can, while you can. The factotum is a little bit of everything rolled into one. You are pretty good at anything you try. You speak many languages. You get sparks of inspiration that flame up when needed. When the party is stumped, they turn to you, knowing you can probably find the solution in a pinch!
Spark of Inspiration
At 3rd level, you gain the ability to express your vast knowledge in a pinch. You gain advantage on one skill check. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses of it when you finish a long rest.
Once you reach 10th level, you may regain all uses after a short rest.
Linguist
Once per short rest, you may be able to communicate with someone in a language you are not proficient in as the Comprehend Languages spell. You can communicate in this manner for only 10 minutes, after which you start to confuse your words and stumble your sentences. You can use this ability to read unknown languages as well, but only get the literal meaning of the words.
Once you reach 10th level, you may use this ability twice per short rest.
Spell Mimicry
Starting at 3rd level, you stop learning new spells as a bard but retain the spellcasting ability and progression of spell levels and spell slots. You do however retain any spells you have already learned and may still cast them. You now have the ability to mimic any spell you have seen cast. This spell must be of the same level or lower that you can cast. You cannot however, mimic a spell that you have seen for the first time during a battle you are currently in. You need to wait and take a long rest to go over the spell in your head and figure out how it was done. After that, you may add it to your repertoire. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for any spells you mimic.
While this may seem a great boon, you cannot seem to get the full effect when you cast something in this manner. Any spell cast through mimicry will have some lessening effect. If the spell does damage, you will do less damage. If the spell has a duration, you will have a lesser duration. Examples are damage spells. Mimicry will do one die type less than the original spell. (Burning hands does 3d6 fire damage. You can mimic this spell with 3d4 fire damage). If a spell such as charm person lasts 1 hour, yours will last 10 minutes. If detect magic lasts 10 minutes, yours will last 1 minute. Range is unchanged. If it is a utility spell, such as knock, it will gain a DC Save or the spell will fail.
Bard spells you have already learned will manifest as the spell description, since these were learned in a normal fasion. Charisma remains your spellcasting ability for spells learned as a Bard.
You cannot mimic cantrips but may learn new ones as a Bard with the normal Bard spell progression.
Spell Mastery
Starting at 10th level, instead of choosing two spells according to the Bard Magical Secrets ability, you can master two of the spells you have already learned from mimicry. Mastering these spells allows you to cast them properly, doing the correct damage die or correct duration. This applies at 14th and 18th level as well.
Make your own luck
Starting at 6th level, as a reaction, you gain advantage on one saving throw or one roll to hit or damage. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses of it when you finish a long rest.
At 14th level you regain all uses after a short rest.
Spark of Genius
Starting at 14th level add your Intelligence bonus to all skill checks.
