Base Class: Ranger
Those who join the Huntsman Conclave generally do so for one reason and one reason alone; the thrill of the hunt. Seen as a bit of a black spot by other Conclaves, their connection to nature is less of a mutual understanding, but rather a studied application. Through meditative rituals they are able to hone their senses to an almost supernatural degree and bond to them a Hunting Hound that is as much a weapon as it is a companion.
Hunter Tracker
Starting at 3rd level when you choose this subclass you gain the ability to track more effectively.
You know the Hunter’s Mark spell. It is a Ranger spell for you. It is always considered Known and does not count against your Spells Known. You can cast it without expending a spell slot and it is always cast using your highest Ranger Spell Slot Level. You can cast it in this manner a number of times, equal to your Wisdom Modifier. All expended uses are regained when you finish a Long Rest.
Hunting Hound
Also at 3rd level, you form a supernatural bond with a Hunting Hound to accompany you and aid you in your endeavours.
You use the Mastiff stat block for your Hunting Hound (it need not be a mastiff nor a breed of dog, it might be a large cat or some other form of animal, you use the mastiff stat block regardless).
The Hunting Hound benefits from your Wisdom Modifier in the following ways:
- You add your Wisdom Modifier to the AC of the Hunting Hound.
- You add your Wisdom Modifier to the Attack and Damage rolls of the Hunting Hound.
- You add your Wisdom Modifier to any Saving Throws the Hunting Hound has to make.
- The Hit Points of the Hunting Hound are calculated using your Wisdom Modifier x your Ranger Level (the Hunting Hound has a number of Hit Dice equal to your Ranger Level).
- When you finish a Long or Short Rest, your Hunting Hound gains Temporary Hit Points equal to your Wisdom Modifier + your Ranger Level.
In combat, the Hunting Hound acts during your turn. It can Move and use its Reaction on its own, but the only Action it takes is the Dodge Action, unless you take a Bonus Action on your turn to command it to take another Action. That Action can be one in its stat block or some other action. If you are Incapacitated, the Hunting Hound can take any Action of its choice, not just Dodge.
If the Hunting Hound has died within the last 10 minutes, you can use an Action and expend a Ranger Spell Slot of 1st Level or higher to revive it, restoring it to half its Hit Points. You can do so only if the Hunting Hound is within 30 feet of you and you can see it.
If you fail to revive it, you must find a new Hunting Hound and spend an 8 hour period in a meditative state together, during which you form a bond with it (this can be done as part of a Long Rest).
When you reach a Level in the Ranger class that would give you the Ability Score Improvement, you may forego it on yourself and give it to your Hunting Hound instead (this carries over to a new Hound should you need to bond with another).
Hunter’s Bond
Beginning at 7th Level, the Hunting Hound can now benefit from the effects of Hunter’s Mark when you cast it on a creature. In addition, the Hunting Hound’s Attacks now count as magical for the purpose of overcoming Resistance and Immunity to non-magical Attacks and Damage.
Hunter’s Instinct
Beginning at 11th Level, when you use a Bonus Action to apply Hunter’s Mark to a creature (whether through casting it or moving it from a creature you have killed to another), you can command your Hunting Hound as part of that same Bonus Action.
Hunter’s Mark no longer requires Concentration when you cast it; only one creature can be affected by your Hunter’s Mark at a time.
Hunter’s Wrath
Beginning at 15th Level, when you or your Hunting Hound Attack a creature that has your Hunter’s Mark cast on it, you have Advantage on the Attack Roll. In addition, your Hunter’s Mark now uses 2d6 for the extra Damage it deals.
