Monk
Base Class: Monk

One of the insectoid styles of monk disciplines, monks of this path are masters of defence and pushing around their opponents, channelling their Ki to their skin and into their strikes.

Exoskeleton

At 3rd level, you have learned to channel your Ki into your skin to briefly turn it into a sturdy exoskeleton.

When you are targeted with an attack roll, you may spend 2 Ki points as a reaction to increase your AC by 5 until the start of your next turn. You may do so after knowing if the attack hits or misses.

Defensive Form

Also at 3rd level, you have learned to continuously channel your Ki through your body to maintain a defensive, powerful stance that replicates a beetle's sturdy nature.

As a bonus action you can enter your Defensive Stance for 1 minute. While in this stance, you gain a +2 bonus to AC and have resistance against Bludgeoning, Piercing and Slashing damage. You can also push opponents around while in this stance. When you hit with a melee attack while in this stance, you may spend 1 Ki point to force your opponent to succeed on a Strength saving throw or be pushed 5 feet in a direction of your choice.

While in this stance, you cannot take your Step of The Wind bonus action nor do you benefit from your Unarmoured Movement and Evasion class features, your defensive form being too rigid for particularly swift movement.

You can enter this form a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus and regain all expended uses on a long rest.

Beetle Style

At 6th level, you have learned to optimise your Ki channelling to emulate a specific type of beetle.

Choose one of the beetle types below. Until 17th level, you may change your Beetle Style choice whenever you gain a level in this class.

Bombardier Beetle

You have learned to emulate the defensive, boiling chemical blast of a Bombardier Beetle. As a reaction when you take damage from an enemy within 15 feet of you, you may spend 1 Ki point to lash out in retaliation. All creatures in a 15ft cone must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 3 martial arts dice of fire damage on a failed save or half as much on a successful one.

The damage of this feature increases as you reach higher levels in this class: 4 dice at 11th level, and 5 dice at 17th level.

Goliath Beetle

You have learned to emulate the sheer size and power of the Goliath Beetle. When you enter you Defensive Stance, you also increase in size as all your dimensions double and weight multiplies by eight. This growth increases your size by one category-- from Medium to Large, for example. If there isn't enough room for you to double your size, you attain the maximum possible size in the space available. You also have advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws, and your attacks deal 1 extra martial arts die of damage.

Great Diving Beetle

You have learned to emulate the aquatic prowess of the Great Diving Beetle. You gain a swimming speed equal to your walking speed and can breathe underwater.

Stag Beetle

You have learned to emulate the powerful clashes of Stag Beetles. You can perform the push from your Defensive Stance even when it is not activated and this push no longer requires a Ki point in either state. Furthermore, when you use that push, the target also falls Prone if it fails its Strength saving throw can be pushed up to 15 feet rather than 5 feet.

Tiger Beetle

You have learned to emulate the Tiger Beetle's speed. While in your Defensive Stance, you may benefit from your Unarmoured Movement and Evasion class features. Additionally, your speed is increased by 10ft and opportunity attacks against you have disadvantage whether or not you are in your Defensive Form.

Superior Stance

By 11th level, your defences have grown stronger.

Your Defensive Stance's AC bonus increases to +3. Additionally, when you activate your stance, you may choose one additional damage resistance from the following list to gain for the duration: Fire, Cold, Acid, Lightning, Thunder, or Force.

Limited Flight

Also by 11th level, you have learned to replicate a beetle's flight capabilities.

As a bonus action, you may spend 1 Ki point to gain a flying speed of 10 feet for 1 minute. This flying speed increases by 10 feet for the duration for every additional Ki point you choose to spend when activating this feature. You may use this feature while in your Defensive Stance but with a maximum flying speed of 30 feet.

Beetle Master

By 17th level you have learned to more easily replicate many different types of beetles.

Whenever you finish a long rest, you may replace your Beetle Style choice with another one.

Ascended Stance

Also by 17th level, you have mastered a beetle's defensive capabilities.

Your Defensive Stance's AC bonus increases to +4. Additionally, you no longer lose access to your Evasion and Unarmoured Movement features while it is active as well as being able to use your Step of The Wind bonus action.
