Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

The origins of Rune Sorcery are mysterious and ancient, and it is an Sorcerers' art that was thought long forgotten. Those who are born with the magical power of rune sorcery tend to have a specific elemental affinity that those runes can be wielded and manipulated to bolster and embolden to devastating effect.

Runic Affinity

The arcane magic of the Runes that you command are ascribed to a particular elemental affinity. You can choose between the following affinities;

Element DAMAGE TYPE

Flame

Fire

Ice

Frost

Air

Lightning

Earth

Bludgeoning (Magical)

The damage type associated with each elemental affinity is used by features that you gain later. In addition, you learn to read, speak and write Primordial.

Elemental Air

At 1st level, you choose one type of Elemental Affinity. The damage type associated with that affinity is used by features you gain later.

Elemental Earth

At 1st level, you choose one type of Elemental Affinity. The damage type associated with that affinity is used by features you gain later.

Elemental Flame

At 1st level, you choose one type of Elemental Affinity. The damage type associated with that affinity is used by features you gain later.

Elemental Ice

At 1st level, you choose one type of Elemental Affinity. The damage type associated with that affinity is used by features you gain later.

Runic Aura

Starting at 1st level, When you cast a spell that deals the damage type of your chosen Elemental Affinity, you are surrounded by raw magic of that Element until the end of your turn. As a bonus action you can harness that power to deal an extra 1d6 to each target of the spell cast.

The damage die increases to 1d8 at level 5, 1d10 at level 10 and 1d12 at level 15

Improved Runic Aura

At 6th level, You gain resistance to the Elemental Affinity of your rune magic, and whenever you start casting a spell of 1st level or higher that affinity damage, the Runic Aura that surrounds you causes creatures of your choice within 10 ft. of you take additional damage of that type.

Rune Shield

Beginning at 6th level, the elemental affinity inscribed in your blood can provide magical protection to you and your allies. If you or another creature you can see within 30 feet of you takes damage of your Runic Affinity type, you can use your reaction to reduce that damage by 2d6.

When you reach certain levels in this class, you can reduce the damage by more: by 3d6 at 10th level and by 4d6 at 14th level.

Runic Fury

Starting at 14th level, when you are hit by a melee attack, you can use your reaction to deal damage to the attacker. The damage equals your sorcerer level. The attacker must also make a Strength saving throw against your sorcerer spell save DC. On a failed save, the attacker is pushed in a straight line up to 20 feet away from you. The damage type corresponds with your Runic Affinity

Rune Soul

At 18th level, you gain immunity to the damage type associated with your Runic Affinity.

You also gain a magical flying speed of 60 feet. As an action, you can reduce your flying speed to 30 feet for 1 hour and choose a number of creatures within 30 feet of you equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier. The chosen creatures gain a magical flying speed of 30 feet for 1 hour. Once you reduce your flying speed in this way, you can’t do so again until you finish a short or long rest.
