Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Sometimes a barbarian’s rage isn’t entirely primal, sometimes the spark that fuels it comes from a magical source that glimmers within the soul. Ancient divine magic, perhaps, that indicates that hundreds of years ago, a prophecy marked you as a virtuous champion of heroism for the dark times to come, as a paragon of glory to save the innocents.

Paragons, with their natural magnetism, inspiring presence and fated future, are often seen as a threat by some religious hierarchies, as outsiders who command celestial power they do not deserve. When it comes to other eviller forces, you might be outright hunted by them, as they seek to prevent your future role in the battles to come.

To you, however, what your place in the world is may not be so clear. What if the prophetical magic that marked you made a mistake in doing so? What if you don’t even know about your supposed fate and don’t understand the why in how other beings treat you? What if your so told fate involves you dying after great amounts of pain at a young age? Perhaps all you want to do is escape your supposed role, and even if you succeed in doing so, you’ll always know that your great power is the way it is, for a reason.

A Role to Fulfil

Starting at 3rd level, your prophesied role in history helps you live until your part is fulfilled. Whenever you finish a short or long rest or you regain hit points, you may gain temporary hit points equal to 1 + half your barbarian level (rounded down).

Aura of the Paragon

Also at 3rd level, you emanate an inspiring aura while you rage. The aura extends 15 feet from you in every direction, but not through total cover.

When you enter your rage, and as a bonus action on any subsequent turns, a number of creatures within the aura (this may include yourself) up to a number equal to your proficiency bonus gain a Paragon die, a d4. When you reach 11th level in this class, the die increases in size to a d6, and at 19th level it becomes a d8.

Whenever a creature with a Paragon die makes an attack roll or saving throw, they can expend it and roll their die, adding the number rolled to the attack roll or saving throw. Alternatively, whenever a creature with a Paragon die deals damage, the creature can expend it and roll the die, adding the number to the damage roll.

The Paragon die lasts until the end of your next turn, and once it is rolled, it is lost. A creature can only have one Paragon die at a time.

Fated Presence

When you reach 6th level, your mere presence grants you protection against forces that seek to corrupt you. You gain proficiency in Wisdom and Charisma saving throws.

Additionally, you have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened.

Protective Aura

At 10th your aura now grants a degree of protection. Its radius becomes 25 feet, and whenever an attack roll is made against a creature with a Paragon die, they can use their reaction to expend the die and gain a bonus to their Armor Class equal to 1 + half your Constitution Modifier (rounded up) until the end of their next turn.

A creature can use this reaction twice, and they can’t use it again until they finish a short or long rest.

Prophesized Aura

Starting at 14th level, your aura is at its most powerful. Its radius becomes 35 feet.

Additionally, creatures who receive a Paragon die can use their reaction to roll the die and regain hit points equal to four times the number rolled.
