Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of the Bastion calls to the protectors of the world. There is no purpose greater then defending and sheltering others and, in a world, where devastation can be brought about through magic, environmental disaster, warfare, and countless other threats there is always a need for a dedicated guardian

Paladins who follow the Oath to the Bastion commit to sheltering and guarding others. Bastion Paladins might take on the role of an engineer building fortress defenses, or a dedicated body guard or city watchmen, others might find themselves a lone warrior defending a simple town against banditry. Whatever purpose an Oath of the Bastion Paladin takes they make sheltering others against devastation their key focus.

TENANTS OF THE BASTION

The tenants of the Oath of the Bastion guide a Paladin to provide shelter for all in need.

Bare the Burden Not all are blessed with the same fortitude. Where one can weather the storm another may not. Bare the burden where others cant.

Fortify Against All Odds No odds are too great, no risk too high to cause one to abandon someone in need of shelter.

Preparation is Protection There are few better defenses than a well prepared fortification. Whether that means bolstering ones self or the space around you. preparation is key.

Persistence and Endurance Just as a shelter or fortress must stand against the wear and tear of time so too must the deeds of Oath of the Bastion Paladin.

Channel Divinity

3rd-level Oath of Glory feature

You gain the following two Channel Divinity options. See the Sacred Oath class feature for how Channel Divinity works.

Sheltering Presence. As a bonus action, you can use your Channel Divinity to provide shelter against a specific type of damage. Upon using this bonus action select one of the following damage types; Force, Necrotic, Radiant, or Psychic. For the next 10 rounds yourself and all allies within 30 ft have resistance to your selected damage type.

Bulwark Smite. As a bonus action, you can use your Channel Divinity to form a shimmering transparent shield of abjuration magic. This shield is 15ft tall and 15ft high and creates a zone of protection in a 15ft cube behind the paladin. The shield adjusts to fit the space provided. If the Paladin stands within a 5ft by 5ft hallway the shield becomes 5ft by 5ft. If the Paladin stands within a 10ft by 10 ft hallway the shield becomes 10ft by 10ft. The shield can be maintained for 10 rounds or until the Paladin falls unconscious. The Shield can be dropped as a free action. Other smites may not be used while the shield is being maintained. Any creatures within the cube, including the Paladin, gain the following benefits.

- Half Cover
- Advantage on Constitution, Strength, and Dexterity Saving Throws
- The shield counts as difficult terrain for enemies attempting to pass into or through the cube.

The Paladin may use an action to expel the magical energy of the shield forwards in a magical shield bash. All creatures in a 15ft cube in front of the shield must make a Strength saving throw against your Paladins Spell DC. On a failure the creatures take 1D8 force damage and are pushed back 10ft. On a success they take half damage and are not moved. Once used the shield drops.

Safe Guard

3rd-level Oath of the Bastion feature

Oath of the Bastion Paladins may wield Two-Handed weapons and wear a shield in unison.

Aura of Denial

7th- and 18th-level Oath of the Bastion feature

You emanate an aura that empowers you to throw yourself into the defense of your allies. As a reaction if an ally within range of your Aura is the target of a ranged, melee or spell attack you may immediately move to any point within 5 feet of said Ally. The attack roll is then made against your AC rather then the targets.

When you reach 18th level in this class, the range of the aura increases to 20 feet.

Stoic Defense

15th-level Oath of the Bastion feature

As an action you may attempt to become immovable. Your movement becomes 0 but you may take actions and bonus actions as normal. You anchor to any surface you are standing on and cannot be moved save by a creature using an Action to make a DC 25 Strength check. Upon a success your anchor is broken and you are no longer immovable.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Walking Fortress

20th-level Oath of the Bastion  feature

You can empower yourself to become a walking defensive fortification. As a bonus action, you gain the following benefits for 1 minute:

  • Your Bastion Smite Shield wall is impenetrable terrain for all enemies attempting to move through it.
  • Your Bastion Smite Shield bash does an additional 4d8 force Damage
  • You gain a +5 to your AC
  • If you fail a saving throw, you can use your reaction to reroll it. You must use this new roll.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest, unless you expend a 5th-level spell slot to use it again.
