Base Class: Monk
Monks who follow the Way of the Adaptive Current understand that true harmony lies in embracing dynamic responses rather than rigid preparations. They gracefully navigate the chaos of battle, riding its ever-changing currents and seizing every moment of uncertainty as an opportunity. Behind their tranquil facade lies an explosive potential as they strike reactively with surprising force.
Respond In Kind
At 3rd level, you have mastered the art of capitalizing on your enemy's missteps. When a creature within 5 feet of you misses you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to deliver an unarmed strike against them. If your strike hits, you gain temporary hit points equal to half your Monk level (rounded down, minimum 1).
Instant Reflexes
At 3rd level, your heightened senses and swift reflexes enable you to react to threats without exhausting your inner reserves. When you spend a ki point to take a reaction, you retain that ki point instead of expending it.
This feature, reflecting your growing mastery, can be used once per long rest when you first gain it at 3rd level. As you become more attuned to the flow of combat, you can apply this ability twice per long rest at 9th level, and three times per long rest at 15th level, thus maintaining your swift response without depleting your spiritual energy.
Dynamic Response
By 6th level, your adaptability thrives through readiness. You can spend 1 ki point to gain one of the following benefits:
Counterbalance: When a creature within 5 feet of you misses you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to attempt to knock them prone. The target must succeed on a Strength saving throw against your Ki Save DC or fall prone.
Keen Perception: If you become blinded or deafened, you can use your reaction to remove the condition until the start of your next turn.
Adaptive Learning: When you fail a skill check or saving throw, you can use your reaction to gain advantage on your next skill check or saving throw of the same type before the end of your next short or long rest.
Flowing Defense: When you are hit by a melee attack, you can use your reaction to add your Wisdom modifier to your AC for that attack, potentially causing it to miss.
Stunned Silence
At 11th level, your swift reactions can disrupt your enemies' actions. When a creature within 5 feet hits you with an attack, you can spend 2 ki points to use your reaction and attempt a Stunning Strike against the attacker.
Chain Reaction
By 17th level, your reactions come as naturally as breathing. When you roll for initiative and have no ki points remaining, you regain 4 ki points. Additionally, when you spend a ki point to use a reaction, you can take another reaction before the start of your next turn.
