Base Class: Monk
You follow a tradition dedicated to speed and the tempestuous energies of the world. Drawing inspiration from their titular force of nature, Storm Rider monks move and strike like lightning. Here one moment and gone the next, masters of this discipline even appear to have the ability to teleport, thanks to their incredible speed.
Lightning Strikes
3rd-Level Way of the Storm Rider Feature
At 3rd level, your connection to the stormy energies of the world begins to manifest in your strikes. Once per turn, when you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can spend 1 ki point to cause the attack to deal additional lightning or thunder damage (your choice) to the target equal to one roll of your Martial Arts die.
This feature’s damage increases by 1 roll of your Martial Arts die for each additional ki point you spend when you activate this ability, up to a maximum ki point cost equal to your proficiency bonus.
Thunderous Wake
3rd-Level Way of the Storm Rider Feature
Also at 3rd level, when you use Step of the Wind, you can force any creatures of your choice within 5 feet of you before you move to make a Dexterity saving throw against your ki save DC. On a failure, they take lightning or thunder damage (your choice) equal to 1 roll of your Martial Arts die.
This feature’s damage increases by 1 roll of your Martial Arts die for each additional ki point you spend when you activate this ability, up to a maximum ki point cost (including Step of the Wind) equal to your proficiency bonus.
Awakened Spark
6th-Level Way of the Storm Rider Feature
When you reach 6th level, you gain resistance to lightning and thunder damage. In addition, damage you deal ignores resistance to lightning and thunder damage.
Flash Step
6th-Level Way of the Storm Rider Feature
Also at 6th level, your speed increases to new heights. When you Dash, opportunity attacks cannot be made against you.
Shocking Burst
11th-Level Way of the Storm Rider Feature
Starting at 11th level, you can spend 3 ki points to cast Lightning Bolt without material components. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell. When you cast Lightning Bolt in this way, you can teleport to an unoccupied space along the line it affects. You can spend additional ki points to increase the level the spell is cast at. The spell's level increases by 1 for each additional ki point you spend, up to a maximum ki point cost equal to your proficiency bonus.
Eye of the Storm
17th-Level Way of the Storm Rider Feature
Starting at 17th level, you gain immunity to lightning and thunder damage.
In addition, you can spend 6 ki points to cast Chain Lightning without material components. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell. When you cast Chain Lightning in this way, you can then teleport to an unoccupied space you can see within 5 feet of one of the chosen targets.
