Base Class: Monk
Monks who area trained in the Way of the Soulfire Palm are masters of the animating force of all life. All monks are able to manipulate Ki, the magic that pervades through all living things, but these monks are trained in the forbidden Art of Soulfire, the very essence of Ki. This path is Forbidden, as manipulating the Burning Soul of life can lead to exhaustion of the wielder, or even death, as their animating spark of life is snuffed out.
This Art was perfected by the Celestial Vessels, the first Beings of Cold Flame, who were able to use the inherent magic of the Burning Souls of mortals to strike against the Hot Flame of the chaotic Abyss and the many Masked fiends of the Seven Cities of Hell. Soulflame is pale blue and is naturally cold to the touch, only taking on the cleansing power of burning blue flame when used against the wielder of this Art's enemies. Way of the Soulfire Palm monks can use Ki to strike from afar and provide boons to their allies, spreading Soulfire with their deadly Art. Whenever a Way of the Soulfire Palm monk uses an Art, they must make a Constitution saving through with a flat DC of 10. On a failed save, they gain 1 point of exhaustion, that can be removed at the equal cost of 1 ki point as a free action or reduced by 1 during a short rest.
Soulfire Palm Art
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can strike with the Forbidden Art of Soulfire.
You gain a new attack option that you can use with the Attack action. This special attack is a melee spell attack with a range of 15 feet, teleporting you to your target in a flash of blue Soulflame. You are proficient with it, and you add your Dexterity modifier to its attack and damage rolls. Its damage is radiant, and its damage die is a d4. This die changes as you gain monk levels, as shown in the Martial Arts column of the Monk table.
When you take the Attack action on your turn and use this special attack as part of it, you can spend 1 ki point to make the special attack twice as a bonus action.
When you gain the Extra Attack feature, this special attack can be used for any of the attacks you make as part of the Attack action.
It is said that the Celestial Vessels would be like whirling tongues of flame upon the battlefield.
Vested Flame Art
At 6th level, you gain the ability to use your Burning Soul and others to make powerful attacks. Immediately after you take the Attack action on your turn, you can spend 2 ki points to cast the burning hands spell as a bonus action centered from any ally or yourself within 60 feet, using a flicker of the Burning Soul's flame to strike at foes. When you do this, you empower the ally or yourself with the now manifested Soulfire. Their attacks are considered magical, and deal an additional 1d6 radiant damage for 1 minute.
You can spend additional ki points to cast burning hands as a higher-level spell. Each additional ki point you spend increases the spell’s level by 1. The maximum number of ki points (2 plus any additional points) that you can spend on the spell equals half your monk level.
Why did the Celestial Vessels train the first monks of this Way? Was it because they saw what They would become?
Forbidden Radiance Art
At 11th level, as an action you can use the Forbidden Art of Radiance and emanate a sphere of searing Soulfire with a range of 30 feet, wounding the burning spark of life in foes and empowering allies with their burning souls made manifest. This Art lasts for a round and emanates from you like a flash of blue flame, but the benefits of your empowered allies can last longer at the cost of additional Ki.
Each creature that you choose in that 30-foot-radius sphere must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or take 2d6 radiant damage. Allies in the sphere of Soulfire are empowered, gaining either additional 2d6 radiant damage on their attacks or are healed by 2d6, whichever they choose.
You can increase the sphere’s damage and you allies boons by spending ki points. Each point you spend, to a maximum of 3, increases the damage done to enemies or healing done to allies by 2d6.
When the first Monks of the Way of the Soulfire Palm fought masked fiends along the streets of the Red City, the Celestial Vessels saw the mortal sin they committed, and Forbade these Arts.
Desecrated Art of Unmaking, Anathema of Life, Forbidden by All
At 17th level, you can extinguish the spark of life in a creature you can see as an action.
As an action, you can use 10 ki points teleport to a creature within 60 feet of you in a flash of blue Soulfire, and reach into their Soul, potentially destroying it. They must make a Constitution saving throw or be reduced to 1 hit point, their soul destroyed, but them alive. The user of this Art then takes five levels of exhaustion if their target's soul is Unmade. This can only be done once, restoring once you atone for your transgression during a long rest.
This Art is the utter rejection of Order, a Desecrated act that once doomed the Cold Flame Vessels to Unmaking. By using this Forbidden Art, are you any better than the devouring Hot Flame of Chaos you claim to fight?
