Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

Firearms, one of the newest inventions to grace the kingdoms of Helid. Many Artificers and inventors alike have done what they always do, try to make magic versions of this new form of weaponry. Spellslingers are wizards who have perfected this craft.

Gunsmith Proficiencies

Starting at 2nd level you gain proficiency with Firearms, Light Armor and Tinker’s Tools. You may use your Tinker’s tools to craft ammunition at half the cost, repair damaged firearms, or even draft and create new ones (DM’s discretion). Some extremely experimental and intricate firearms are only available through crafting.

Spellslinger

Also at 2nd level you gain the ability to bond with one particular firearm. Over the course of one hour, you attune your firearm to your arcane powers, imbuing it and making it your Spellslinger. You can use this firearm as a spellcasting focus for your wizard spells. Your Spellslinger ceases being your spellcasting focus if you die, if you perform the 1-hour ritual on a different firearm, or if you use a one-hour ritual to break your bond to it. Using your Spellslinger you can use your Intelligence + proficiency bonus to calculate attacks and you gain a damage bonus equal to your Intelligence modifier. In addition you gain the following benefits.

  • This weapon is considered magical for the purposes of overcoming resistance to nonmagical weapons.
  • You can cast Cantrips through your Spellslinger. Ranged cantrips cast through your Spellslinger gain an additional 30ft of range. Touch or self cantrips cantrips cast through your Spellslinger have a range of 30ft instead.
  • Attacks and cantrips fired from this gun do an extra 1d6 force damage. This damage increases to 2d6 at 14th level.
  • When you hit a creature with an attack using your Spellslinger and the creature is concentrating on the spell, the creature must subtract 1d6 from the saving throw it makes to maintain its concentration.

Extra Attack

Starting at 6th level you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. Moreover, you can cast one of your cantrips in place of one of those attacks as long as it is cast through your Spellslinger.

Inscribed Barrels

Also at 6th level, you can inscribe your learned magic onto the barrel of your Spellslinger. Your Spellslinger is treated as a spellbook which you can store a certain number of spells on. Your Spellslinger can store up to 3 spells at 6th level and one additional one at 10th, 14th and 18th level. You can change all of the inscriptions over the course of one day (8 hours) of work and expending 5x the spell's level gp of raw materials per inscription changed. These spells are always considered prepared for you, and do not count against the number of wizard spells you can prepare per day. Additionally any spell that uses your Spellslinger as a spellcasting gains the following benefits.

  • Ranged spells fired through your Spellslinger gain an extra 30ft of range.
  • Touch or Self spells fired through your Spellslinger become 30ft ranged spells.

Whenever you cast a spell through your Spellslinger the gun fulfills any somatic or material costs the spell has except for any material with value (such as a 500 gold piece diamond).

Repeating Shot

Starting at 10th level, you can use your firearms to split the effects of your spells and affect more creatures. When you cast a spell through your Spellslinger, you can use a bonus action to target a second creature in range with the same spell. To be eligible, a spell must be incapable of targeting more than one creature at the spell's current level. For example, scorching ray and lightning bolt aren't eligible, but fire bolt and ray of sickness are.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Never Without a Weapon

At 14th level your bond with your Spellslinger has grown exponentially. You can summon your Spellslinger to your hand or teleport to your Spellslinger as a bonus action as long as it is within 1 mile of you also attacks made with your Spellslinger ignore cover.
