Bard
Base Class: Bard

There are always things going on in the world. The College of Correspondence has made it their mission to train your bards to be there, on the scene, as news is happening, and to take down exactly what they see.

What’s more, when people choose to act in the shadows, the College of Correspondence is there to follow the clues and uncover that which they would otherwise wish hidden. The Korranberg Chronicle seeks to hire every graduate of the College of Correspondence, though other publications vie to employ them. Most members are free agents, selling their stories to whomever will pay the most.

Sensational Headlines

Once you’ve figured out an opponent’s motive, means, and resources, you can lay bare their secrets with just a few words. As a bonus action, you can make a Wisdom (Insight) check against a creature you can see that isn’t incapacitated, contested by the target’s Charisma (Deception) check. If you succeed, the enemy has disadvantage on attack rolls until the start of your next turn and your allies within the sound of your voice have advantage on saving throws against that enemy's attacks.

Field Reporter

You have trained yourself to go into a special trance that fills your notes with all you are told or hear. You have prepared a special notebook with 100 pages that, so long as you hold it in one hand and begin to concentrate, will fill with the words being said by one individual you can hear within 30 feet or by your own words. You can shift between people’s words freely, but only ever record one person’s words at a time. Every 2 minutes fills up a single page. Therefore, your notebook can record up to 200 minutes of speech before filling up.

You have also prepared a volume that is generally kept in a safe place. During a short rest, you can transfer all of the notes from your notebook into the volume. The volume does not have to be present to do this, just on the same plane. Once the transfer is complete, the notebook is empty and ready to be filled anew. The volume never fills.

Hard Hitting Journalism

When one of your allies has a bardic inspiration die, they can spend it before they make a d20 attack roll against a foe that is the target of your Sensational Headlines to make that attack with advantage. They then get to roll the bardic inspiration die and add it to their roll, as normal.

When one of your allies has a bardic inspiration die, they can spend it when they target a creature under the effect of your Sensational Headlines with a spell that requires a saving throw. The target of their spell takes a penalty to their saving throw equal to the roll of the bardic inspiration die. If the spell allows multiple saving throws, the penalty only applies to the first one.

You’ve learned to look for leads that others can’t follow. When casting spells from the divination school, you no longer need expensive spell components that are not consumed in the casting. If a divination spell has a material component that is consumed, you still have to provide them to cast the spell.
