Base Class: Monk
As a practitioner of the Way of the Eternal Flow, you are able to use your ki to strike at the points of flowing energy that you can see in an opponent, hindering their capabilities.
Version 4.11of the Way of the Eternal Flow subclass has been buffed once more.
Changes:
- Flow Gate: Endurance can now be used two times per short or long rest.
Visions of the Eternal Flow
At 3rd level, you are able to see the flow of energy within a creature. The eternal flow converges at certain spots around the body. The head, arms and legs of humanoid creatures are suitable examples. As such, you are able to adopt certain techniques to disrupt a creature's eternal flow in different ways to get different results. You gain two disruption techniques at 3rd level, and you gain one more each time you reach 6th, 11th and 17th level.
Flow Disruption Techniques
At 3rd level, you gain the ability to use techniques that may disrupt a creature's eternal flow. You may select two techniques at 3rd level, and you may learn an additional technique each time you reach 6th, 11th and 17th level.
For some techniques, a creature will be required to make saving throws. The saving throw DC for such techniques is as follows:
Saving throw DC = 8 + your proficiency modifier + your wisdom modifier
Arcane Disruption
You may expend two ki points and use your reaction to attempt to disrupt a creature's attempt to cast a spell. The creature must be within 5 ft. of you and you must make a Dexterity check with a DC equal to 12 + spell slot level of cast spell. On a successful check, the spell is canceled and the action to cast the spell is used but the spell slot is not used.
Damage Mitigation
You may expend two ki points and use your reaction to halve the damage of a creature's critical hit against you or another creature within 5 ft. of you.
Enhanced Strike
When making a weapon attack or an unarmed strike, you may expend a ki point and take your bonus action to target the convergent point of an enemy, lowering the required roll for a critical hit by 1.
Mobility Disruption
When you make a weapon attack or an unarmed strike, you may expend a ki point and use your bonus action to attempt to hinder the target creature's mobility. The target creature must make a Strength saving throw or have their movement speed halved until the start of your next turn. You may also expend two ki points instead to reduce the target creature's movement speed to 0 until the start of your next turn.
Paralyzing Strike
When making an unarmed strike, you may expend two ki points to attempt to paralyze a creature that you hit. The creature must make a Constitution saving throw or be paralyzed until the end of their next turn. You may also expend more ki points when using this technique, with each extra ki point spent being an extra round of paralysis. The extra ki points must be spent at once, before the attack is made. The affected creature may attempt to repeat the saving throw on any subsequent extra round of paralysis.
Strike Disruption
When a creature makes an attack against you, you may expend two ki points and use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the target creature's next attacks. The target creature will make a number of attacks at disadvantage equal to your Dexterity modifier. You must be within 5 ft. of the creature to use this technique. The affected creature may expend an action on a subsequent turn to end the effect prematurely. You are unable to use this technique if the creature already suffers disadvantage on its attack rolls.
Eternal Flow Recovery
At 3rd level, when you take the attack action, you may forgo one of your attacks to regain a ki point as a bonus action. This can be done a number of times equal to your wisdom modifier every long rest.
Flow Reading
At 6th level, you may take your action to read the flow of a creature that you can see within 100 ft. of you during battle. You gain special insight to the creature's nature, and as such, gain the following benefits against the creature:
- The first Eternal Flow Technique used against the creature will require one less ki point to use. If the technique only requires a single ki point to be used, then no ki points will be required to use the technique.
- You make the first saving throw against the creature's spells or attacks with advantage.
- When you take the attack action on the creature for the first time after reading it, you gain an extra attack. If the extra attack hits, you gain a [roll]1d6[/roll] bonus to damage dealt with that attack.
Once you use this feature, you may not do so again until you finish a long rest.
Flow Gates
At 11th level, you are able to use your techniques to open the gates of the Eternal Flow within one's body. You gain a Flow Gate Technique at this level, and one more at 17th level.
Flow Gate: Endurance
You gain the ability to give yourself or a willing creature temporary hit points equal to your character's level as a bonus action. If the temporary hit points are not depleted after a minute passes, the effect wears off. You may use this technique two times every short or long rest.
Flow Gate: Instinct
As a bonus action, you gain the ability to heighten instinct for yourself or a willing creature, increasing the affected creature's armor class by 3 until the start of their next turn. Once you use this technique, you may not use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
Flow Gate: Power
As a bonus action, you may use this technique on yourself or a willing creature. The technique will grant an additional 3d8 bonus to damage until the end of the affected creature's next turn. Once used, the technique may not be used again until after finishing a short or long rest.
Flow Gate: Speed
As a bonus action, you grant either yourself or a willing creature an additional 10 ft. of movement. The effect lasts for a minute. Once you use this technique, you may not use it again until after a short or long rest.
Unseen Insight
At 17th level, you are able to use the flow of energy within a creature to determine their emotions. You automatically succeed on insight checks to determine a creature's emotional state.
