Wizard
Base Class: Wizard

The very few Wild Magic wizards have taken a page out of the sorcerer’s book and tapped into the insanity and chaos of the Unbridled Plane. These wizards, however, have far more struggle and strife on their path than the sorcerers, as their control over the effects of Wild Magic are less refined due to the lack of innate connection. Wizards capable of harnessing the properties of the Unbridled Plane properly are far and few between, will you take the chance? Dare to roll the dice?

Wild Magic Leak

Starting when you choose this school at 2nd level, your draw your source of magic from the Unbridled Plane. Once per turn, when you cast a wizard spell of 1st level or higher, roll a d20 as you attempt to maintain control of the chaotic arcane energy. If you roll a 1 or a 20, roll on the Wild Magic Influx table to create a magical effect. If that effect is a spell and it normally requires concentration, it doesn't require concentration in this case and spells last for its full duration.

When adding a spell to your spellbook, make an Arcana check with a DC equal to 12 + the spell level. On a success, you transcribe the spell with no issues and the spell functions properly. On a failure, roll 8d4 to determine the amount of times you must cast the spell under Wild Magic effects until you can cast it properly. When casting a failed spell, automatically roll on the Wild Magic table until you’ve casted the designated amount to control it.

Unbridled Influence

Starting at 2nd level, you begin to use the spontaneous influx of Wild Magic and gain advantage on one attack roll, ability check, or saving throw. Once you do so, you must finish a long rest where you record the outcome of your experiment. Any time before you take this rest you can instead roll on yhe Wild Magic table immediately after you cast a wizard spell of 1st level or higher. You then regain the use of this feature

Intense Exposure

As a bonus action, you allow your connection to the Unbridled Plane to expand your senses. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any spell or magic item within 60 feet of you that isn’t behind total cover. When you sense a spell, you learn which school of magic it belongs to.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest

Chaotic Rebirth

Starting at 10th level, when taking a short rest using the Arcane Recovery, you tap into the well of Magic from the Unbridled Plane. When taking a short rest you may choose to roll on the Wild Magic table up to the amount of times equal to your proficiency bonus. For each Wild Magic effect you undergo, you can regain spell slots in level equal to half your wizard level. You cannot regain spell slots higher than 5th level using this feature. After using this feature, you can’t use it again until you take a long rest.

Contained Surge

Starting at 14th level, you can sense the incoming effects of the Unbridled Plane and can manipulate the moment. When you are forced to roll on the Wild Magic table while casting an attack spell, you can forgo the roll and instead roll on an elemental change table, randomly effecting the type of damage your spell deals.

Elemental Type Table

d8 Effect
1 Cold
2 Fire
3 Acid
4 Psychic
5 Thunder
6 Force
7 Lightning
8 Poison
