Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

You have an affinity with crystal formations and their natural abilities. Your connection to these materials may be represented by physical traits, such as gem-like eyes, crystal protrusions or spastic movement caused by glass formations inside your body. Crystal benders are created when humanoids inhabit areas of strong magical activity and are exposed to it in caverns rich in minerals and/or precious stones. These abilities may be inherited from a distant relative once exposed to said energies, too.

Crystal Magic

1st-level Crystal Bender feature

You learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown on the Crystalline Spells table. Each of these spells counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of sorcerer spells you know.

Whenever you gain a sorcerer level, you can replace one spell you gained from this feature with another spell of the same level. The new spell must be a transmutation spell from the sorcerer, warlock, or wizard spell list.

Crystalline Spells
Sorcerer Level Spells
1st faerie fire, sanctuary
3rd arcanist's magic aura, moonbeam
5th magic circle, glyph of warding
7th phantasmal killer, resilient sphere
9th antilife shell, wall of force

Crystal Barrier

1st-level Crystal Bender feature

At 2nd level, you can conjure a barrier of crystal shards that protects, damages or helps you cast your sorcerer spells. As a bonus action, you can create a crystal barrier in a point you can see within 30ft or you can attach it to someone that you see within range (including yourself). The barrier has a hit point maximum equal to twice your sorcerer level, lasts until you finish a long rest and it offers different properties depending on if it is attached to someone or not:

  • While attached, the barrier takes damage instead of the defended until it reaches 0 HP, upon which it is shattered.
  • While unattached, you can use the barrier to reflect and redirect some of your spells. To do so, you must have direct line of sight with the crystal barrier, and the barrier must have direct line of sight with the target of your spell, be it a location or a creature. The barrier can only redirect spells that have a trajectory or take effect in a point where the barrier has line of sight; it cannot redirect areas of effect themselves, that is: spells like acid arrow, fireball, banishment or circle of death can be redirected, whereas already created areas of effect such as tidal wave, cone of cold, thunderwave or ice storm cannot be redirected.
In this state, the barrier is 5 feet tall, 5 feet wide and 1 inch thick, and can be targeted by attacks. Its AC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier, it is immune to poison and psychic damage only when unattached, and adds a +0 to its saving throws.

Attached or not, you can move the crystal barrier up to 30ft from its current location as a bonus action. This includes changing defendants or simply hovering it towards a new position. If at any point the barrier is further than 100ft from you, it is reduced to 0HP and crumbles.

While the barrier has 0 hit points or it is damaged, you can use a bonus action to spend up to four sorcery points to make it regain 10 hit points per sorcery point spent. If the barrier was reduced to 0 hit points, you must conjure it again from where you stand; if it was not destroyed, it can regain hit points from its current position, but the hit points regained cannot excede its hit point maximum.

Once you create the barrier, you can’t create it again until you finish a long rest.

Battle Sheen

6th-level Crystal Bender feature

Whenever you or your barrier take at least 15 points of damage from a spell or spell effect, you regain one sorcery point. This effect can only trigger once per turn.

Spell Refraction

14th-level Crystal Bender feature

If you or the person being protected by your crystal barrier are targeted by a spell and you succeed on the saving throw or the attack misses, you can use your reaction to deflect the spell towards another creature you can see within 60ft. The new target must succeed their own saving throw against the caster's spell save DC, and if the spell is an attack, the attack roll is made using the caster's spell attack bonus.

This feature can only be used twice per long rest.

Dazzling Splendor

18th-level Crystal Bender feature

You can create two crystal barriers as a bonus action. They have their own hit points and can be moved separately as part of the same bonus action, but only one can regain hit points when you use a bonus action to repair a barrier.
