Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

A true warrior fights not only to harm their enemies, but also to aid their allies. Fighters of this calling not only use shields, but become shields, interposing themselves between harm and those who need saving. They should not be underestimated, however. A shield can be a powerful tool in its own right, and sometimes the best offense is a good defense.

Kindness to Aid Friends

At 7th level, your ability to defend your allies from harm can inspire them to fight on. When you use your Protection or Interception fighting style to defend a creature, the creature gains temporary hit points equal to 1d8 + your proficiency bonus.

Improved Shield Combat

The damage your shield deals increases from 1d8 to 1d10, and you gain the following techniques:

  • Shield Crash: You can use a shield as a thrown weapon (20/60). After you make this thrown weapon attack, the shield returns to your hand.

  • Shield Charge: If you move at least 20 feet in a straight line before attacking with your shield, when you attack, you can force the target to make a Strength saving throw (DC = 8 + your Strength modifier + your proficiency bonus) or be knocked prone.

  • Shield Turbo: As a bonus action, you can place your shield on the ground and slide on it. While doing so, your movement does not provoke opportunity attacks, and you are unaffected by difficult terrain; however, while sliding, you do not add your ability score to damage rolls made with your shield.

  • Shield Tornado: As an action, you can whirl around with your shield like a dervish. All creatures within 10 feet of you make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your Strength modifier + your proficiency bonus) or take 1d10 bludgeoning damage.

Power of the Gaurdian

At 3rd level when you take this archetype, you gain either the Protection or Interception fighting style. If you already have both, you can take another fighting style from the fighter list.

You also gain the ability to use a shield offensively, as long as you are not holding anything else in your other hand. The shield counts as a simple weapon you are proficient in, and deals 1d8 bludgeoning damage on a hi

Protection

When a creature you can see attacks a target other than you that is within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll. You must be wielding a shield.

Shield to Repel All

Starting at 15th level, your defensive capabilities are even further developed. You can use your Interception or Protection fighting styles when a creature would take any damage, not just when hit with an attack. (Interception reduces the damage as usual, Protection gives the creature advantage on a saving throw to avoid the damage.)

Guardian's Sacrifice

At 18th level, your desire to defend knows no bounds. When a creature you can see within 30 feet would take damage that would reduce it to zero hit points, you can use your reaction to move up to 30 feet toward them and sacrifice yourself. You reduce yourself to zero hit points, and the creature you saved gains all the hit points you had remaining. If that would exceed their maximum hit points, they gain the rest as temporary hit points, as your sacrifice motivates them to stand strong.
