Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of the Pallid Mask is taken by followers of Jergul that seek out the destruction of unsanctioned undead, specializing in both combating and controlling undead creatures. Known as the Companions of the Pallid Mask they are much more militaristic and fanatic than most other followers of Jergul, who are usually content with recording the deaths of creatures within humanoid settlements, dwelling in musty mausoleums and crypts.

Companions of the Pallid Mask are adept in many aspects of necromancy, undead, and divination magic to obtain knowledge they don't already possess. They also have an uneasy relationship with followers of Kelemvor, as they both seek out the destruction of dangerous undead but the followers of Kelemvor will most likely not tolerate the use of any undead in contrast to followers of Jergal, who believe that some undead have their use.

Dogma of Jergal

Jergal and his followers seek to chronicle the death of all sentient creatures, partially to help sort out their souls and expediate their journey to the afterlife from the City of Judgement within the Fugue Plane.

The Only Goal of Life is Death. Each being has an eternal resting place that is chosen for him or her at the moment of creation. Life is a process of seeking that place and eternal rest.

The Only Constant in Life is Death. Existence is but a brief aberration in an eternity of death. Power, success, and joy are as transitory as weakness, failure, and misery. Only death is absolute, and then only at its appointed hour.

The Only Meaning from Life is Death. Seek to bring order to the chaos of life, for in death there is finality and a fixedness of state. Be ready for death for it is at hand and uncompromising. Life should be prolonged only when it serves the greater cause of the death of the world.

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.

Commune With Dead. You can use your Channel Divinity to speak with the recently deceased. As an action, you target the corpse of a creature within 10 feet, granting it a semblance of life. If the corpse is older than 7 days the channel divinity fails but is not expended. If it does not have an intact skull you instead conjure a ghostly imitation of the creature to speak with. The undead truthfully tells you its name, what it remembers of the events leading to its death, and the God they serve, or none if they don't serve a God. In addition you can ask the corpse an additional question of your choice, which it answers truthfully and based on the knowledge it had in life. The spell doesn't return the creatures soul, simply an animating spirit and the corpse can't learn new information, doesn't comprehend anything that has happened since it died, and can't speculate on future events. Once you use this feature on a corpse you cannot target it again with this feature.

Touch of Death. You can use your Channel Divinity to destroy another creature’s life force by touch. When you hit a creature with a melee attack, you can use Channel Divinity to deal extra necrotic damage to the target. The damage equals 5 + twice your paladin level.

Oath Spells

You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.

Companion of the Pallid Mask Spells

Aura of Death

At 7th level your divine power has greatly altered your body and magic. You no longer need to eat, drink, or breathe. Additionally, at the start of your turn if you aren't incapacitated you and any ally of your choice within 10 feet of you can gain a number of temporary hit points equal to your Charisma modifier.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Undead Resistance

At 15th level your body has gained more traits similar to an undead. You have resistance to necrotic damage, and you are immune to poison. In addition, you no longer need to sleep but can still finish a long rest with 4 hours of light activity, such as reading a book or keeping watch.

Chosen of the Pitiless One

At 20th level as an action you can conjure the spirits of the dead, which grant you the following benefits:

-When you or an ally within 30 feet of you hits with an attack they can deal an additional 1d8 radiant, necrotic, or cold damage (the person who makes the attack roll chooses the damage type).

-At the start of your turn you regain 20 hit points.

-You have advantage on saving throws against any spell or effect caused by an undead.

Once you use this action, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest, unless you expend a 5th-level spell slot to use it again.
