Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

As a child you had a vision from a great white panther with glowing blue eyes, that said you would have a role to play in a coming cataclysm, and the wilds would need your aid. Ever since that day, you've been able to befriend nearly any animal you come across.

As you grew, you were even able to befriend wild beasts and exotic creatures, birds, fish, wolves, bears, even panthers and crocodiles. One day, you saw a white panther lounging around the high places of your village. Always out of reach, but always watching, curious and observant. It looked nearly identical to the one in your dream. You kept a careful eye on it, and an open mind.

On your 18th birthday, as you awoke, you found the white panther lying on the foot of your bed, and heard a voice in your mind. "You have aged well, and grown strong. A Kind heart and a wild soul. My mother always chooses the right person. I am Loque'Teelo, and I am your spirit animal."

Ranger's Companion

At 3rd level, you gain a beast companion that accompanies you on your adventures and is trained to fight alongside you. Choose a beast that is no larger than Medium and that has a chaIlenge rating of 1/4 or lower (the hawk, mastiff, and panther as examples).

Add your proficiency bonus to the beast's AC, attack rolls, and damage rolls, as well as to any saving throws and skills it is proficient in. Its hit point maximum equals its normal maximum or four times your ranger level, whichever is higher.

The beast obeys your commands as best as it can. It takes its turn on your initiative, though it doesn't take an action unless you command it to. On your turn, you can verbally command the beast where to move (no action required by you).

You can use your action to verbally command it to take the Attack, Dash, Disengage, Dodge, or Help action. Once you have the Extra Attack feature, you can make one weapon attack yourself when you command the beast to take the Attack action.

While traveling through your favored terrain with only the beast, you can move stealthily at a normal pace. lf the beast dies, you can obtain another one by spending 8 hours magically bonding with another beast that isn't hostile to you, either the same type of beast as before or a different one.

Beast Soul

Beginning at 3rd Level

  • You may now create an animal bond with beasts of CR equal to your ranger level divided by 5, rounded down.
  • To do so now requires 8 hours and 50 gold pieces multiplied by the CR of the beast.
  • You may be bonded to a total of 5 different beasts.
  • You may still have only 1 animal companion active at a time.
  • You learn the spells Animal Messenger, Animal Friendship, and Speak with Animals

Exceptional Training

Beginning at 7th level, on any of your turns when your beast companion doesn't attack, you can use a bonus action to command the beast to take the Dash, Disengage, Dodge, or Help action on its turn.

Your beast companions hit points are also increased by 1/4 of your total hit points.

Pack Tactics

Starting at 7th Level

  • If you and your beast companion are both engaged in melee range with the same target, both of you have advantage on your attacks.
  • Your movement speed and your beast companions movement speed becomes equal to the average speed of you and your beast companion.

Bestial Fury

Starting at 11th level, your beast companion can make two attacks when you command it to use the Attack action.

Flanking Strike

At 11th Level you learn how to perform a Flanking Strike with your beast companions.

  • As an action, Summon a beast from your stables. If you are wielding a melee weapon, and you, your beast companion, and your summoned beast are all within 30 feet of your target, all of you may move up to 30 feet directly towards your target, and each make an attack at advantage.
  • After the attack concludes, your summoned beast returns to the pack master’s stable.
  • You may use flanking strike 3 times per short rest.

Share Spells

Beginning at 15th level, when you cast a spell targeting yourself, you can also affect your beast companion with the spell if the beast is within 30 feet of YOU.

Kill Command

At 15th Level:

  • You may now use your bonus action to command your beast companion to make a single attack.
  • Kill Command can benefit from Pack Tactics.
