Bard
Base Class: Bard

While bards are no stranger to the occasional card trick that can be seen at carnivals or live performances on the streets, few of them understand the unpredictable nature of bards from the College of Cards. Their form of showmanship relies on the belief that randomness plays a part in everything around them and others, many finding inspiration from a chance to overcome the odds. Bards who pre-take in the College of Cards are said to become excellent gamblers, while others stay to the roots and perform tricks and visual illusions with a simple deck of cards.

Stacked Deck

Starting at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in playing card set and can use them as a spellcasting focus.

Face Card

Also at 3rd level, whenever you give an ally bardic inspiration, roll a d6 to determine what the additional effect will be when an ally use a bardic inspiration that you have given them.

  • King: Whenever you land an attack, you can roll a bardic inspiration and add the result to the damage of your attack and regain hit points equal to half the damage.
  • Queen: When you are forced to make a charisma skill check, you can roll a bardic inspiration and add double the result to the skill check.
  • Jack: Whenever you take damage, you can roll a bardic inspiration and reduce the damage equal to the result of your roll.
  • Ace: Whenever you land a critical hit, you can roll a bardic inspiration and add additional damage dice equal to half the result rounded down.
  • Number Card: roll a d10, you can either heal or deal damage to a target creature within 30ft.
  • Joker: You may pick an effect from Face Card and use that effect instead.

Thin the Deck

At 6th level, you can roll the d6 from Face Card twice instead of once and can pick either number as the result.

Chain Effect

Also at 6th level, whenever you cast a spell, you can create a copy of the spell into a card and allow a friendly creature to cast it while using your spell casting modifier for it. You can only use this a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus and resets after completing a long rest.

Full House

At 14th level, your bardic inspiration gains additional effects on top of the ones already provided by Face Card.

  • King: In addition, you now heal equal to the amount of damage you deal.
  • Queen: In addition, whenever you make a charisma skill check, you can treat a roll on a d20 of 14 or lower as a 15.
  • Jack: In addition, whenever you take damage, you can force a hostile creature within 60ft to take damage equal to the amount of damage you received.
  • Ace: In addition, your attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.
