Base Class: Artificer
An elf twists their hand, curls their fingers, then looks down at their opponent as they flip over them. A wave of enchantment magic puts their enemy to sleep;
A dwarf utters a phrase in dwarvish as they look over a battlefield, runed axe in hand, and doubles in size;
A human performs a complex array of hand signs as they pressure an opponent with their blade, and a slew of magic missiles explode from their back;
All of these are Glyphars in action. A Glyphar is an artificer that has unlocked their spellcasting by understanding the language of Glyphs. They can imbue their spells into items, and lay glyphs as traps, allowing them to be prepared for any encounter. They combine this tactical ability with martial prowess they enhance with their spellcasting.
Contingent Casting
When you reach 3rd level, your study of Glyphs have paid off.
- You can cast an artificer spell of 1st level or higher and imbue it into an item or surface, called a Glyph.
- The Glyph will behave as a Glyph of Warding Spell Glyph, but ignore the closed item and movable distance requirements.
- You may have a number of Glyphs active equal to your Proficiency Modifier, and they disappear on a long rest.
Glyphed Weaponry
When you reach 3rd level, your training in glyphs have enabled you to channel magic through weapons. You gain the following benefits:
- You gain proficiency with martial weapons.
- Whenever you finish a long rest, you can touch one weapon, turning it into your Glyphed Weapon. When you attack with that weapon, you can use your Intelligence modifier, instead of Strength or Dexterity, for the attack and damage rolls. This benefit lasts until you finish a long rest.
- You may use your Glyphed Weapon as a spellcasting Focus
Extra Attack
Starting at 5th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. Moreover, you can cast one of your cantrips in place of one of those attacks.
Permanent Glyph
Starting at 9th level, your knowledge of Glyphs has made a qualitative change. You can create a permanent Glyph by casting a spell in the same location or item every day for one week, as well as providing 200gp of incense and diamond dust. A Glyph cast in this way does not count against your total.
Powerful Glyphs
Starting at 15th level, your mastery of glyphs is unparalleled, and you can now eke out more power from them. Your glyphs may trigger twice before disappearing.
