Base Class: Wizard
Wizards in the School of Metamagic choose to not focus on one particular school of magic to specialise in, and instead study the fundamentals of magic itself. They use this knowledge to learn and shape spells of any school of magic. Due to their nature, wizards of this school can be highly unstable.
Spellcrafting
Starting at 2nd level, the user can use their knowledge of metamagic to create their own custom spells.
When preparing their spells at the start of the day, instead of selecting from their known spell list, metamagic wizards may choose to attempt to create a custom spell for the day. This spell must be of similar power to what spell levels they have available. The user makes an arcana check with DC12 + Spell level. On success the spell is created as intended. On a failure (depending on how bad) a spell may be created with a different or weaker effect.
During the day, a metamagic wizard may choose to create a custom spell on the fly. This may be done as a free action once per turn. The spell creation DC for this method is 15 + Spell level to account for the swift nature of the spells creation.
Metamagic Knowledge
In addition to crafting their own spells, metamagic wizards have extensive knowledge of all existing schools of magic.
When preparing spells for the day, instead of selecting from their known spell list or creating their own spell, they may choose to prepare a spell from any school of magic known to other wizards. They must make an arcana check with DC10 + Spell level to prepare spells in this way. On success the spell is prepared as intended. On a failure (depending on how bad) a spell may be created with a different or weaker effect.
During the day, a metamagic wizard may choose to cast an unprepared wizard spell on the fly. This may be done as a free action once per turn. The spell creation DC for this method is 13 + Spell level to account for the swift nature of the spells preparation.
Metamagic Insight
Beginning at 6th level, users may use their metamagic knowledge feature to prepare & cast on the fly spells previously exclusive to other spellcasting tables.
This feature follows the same properties and DCs as the metamagic knowledge feature.
Advanced Spellcrafting
Starting at 10th level, once a custom spell has been used enough metamagic wizards may choose to transcribe this spell to their spellbook and learn it permanently.
Spells transcribed this way can be prepared daily the same as any other known spell with no required DC checks. The spell can also be used by other spellcasters if they are able to learn the spell.
In order to transcribe a custom spell to their spellbook, a wizard must spend a long rest and a GP value of 250 * Spell level worth of magic components.
Magic Transcendence
At 14th level, the user gains a level of understanding of metamagic previously inaccessible.
Any existing spells from any spellcasting table may be prepared for free at the start of the day.
If casting an unprepared existing spell on the fly, the arcana check DC is now only 8 + Spell level as your understanding makes it easier to prepare than before.
