Fighter
Base Class: Fighter

As a practiced student of warfare, you’ve learned your lessons the survivor’s way-on the frontlines. Your experience and prowess are now your greatest weapons, allowing you to martial your allies with ease and lead formations to great affect.

United Front

Beginning when you choose this archetype at 3rd level, you may create battle formations.

When you are within 5 feet of at least one friendly creature, you may use a bonus action to create a formation with that creature, or add any number of friendly creatures within 5 feet of you to a pre-existing formation.

Formations you create have a maximum size equal to your proficiency bonus, and only 1 formation of your making may exist at any time. Creating a formation when one already exists dissolves the pre-existing formation.

While in a formation, all creatures within the formation  gain the following benefits:

  •  When another creature within formation with you moves on their turn, you may expend a reaction to move up to your speed, ending your movement within 5 feet of them. This movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity.
  • When another creature within formation is hit by an enemy melee attack, you may use your reaction to make an opportunity attack against that enemy creature.
  • Your AC against ranged attacks is increased by an amount equal to the number of creatures within formation besides you.

A creature is considered no longer in your formation if it chooses not to be (no action required), or when:

  • It ends its turn and is not within 5 feet of at least one other creature in formation.
  • It is subjected to an effect that places it more than 5 feet away from at least one other creature in formation.
  • Its health is reduced to 0 hp or becomes Incapacitated.
  • It becomes a part of a different formation.

If ever a formation you created would become divided to form 2 or more distinct formations, only the formation you are a part of remains. If you are ever removed from a formation you created, that formation is immediately dissolved

Veteran’s Talent

Starting at 7th level, when you make an attack roll and the number rolled on the d20 is less than your proficiency bonus, you may reroll the die and use the second result.

When you are in a formation, all other creatures in formation with you may use this feature.

Improved Fighting Style

At 10th level, your prowess pushes you toward excellence, inspiring great feats from even your allies through nothing more than force of will.  Select one Fighting Style you have previously selected with the Fighting Style class feature. It gains the additional benefits listed below:

Improved Archery

Being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn't impose disadvantage on your ranged attack rolls, and your ranged weapon attacks deal an additional 1d4 damage to creatures within 10 feet of you.

While in a formation, you and other creatures in your formation may make opportunity attacks with ranged weapons when an enemy moves outside of melee range, or for the purposes of United Front.

Improved Defense

While you are wearing armor, piercing, bludgeoning, and slashing damage you take from all weapon attacks is reduced by 2.

While you are in a formation, you gain a +1 bonus to AC whenever your are hit by an attack, which lasts until the start of your next turn. This feature is granted to all creatures within your formation.

Improved Dueling

When you are wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapons, you gain an additional +1 to damage rolls.

When you are in a formation, you and all other creatures within your formation gain a +5 bonus to their walking speed. Additionally, whenever a creature makes an attack against you or a creature within your formation and it is not made on their turn, this attack is made at Disadvantage.

Improved Great Weapon Fighting

When you roll maximum damage on all of a weapon’s damage die/dice for an attack you make with a melee weapon that you are wielding with two hands, you may deal an additional amount of damage equal to your Strength modifier. Additionally, if the target is large or smaller you may choose to knock them prone, or push them up to 10 feet away from you. The weapon must have the two-handed or versatile property for you to gain this benefit.

When you are in a formation, you and all creatures within your formation may, once per turn, reroll the damage dice for a weapon attack and use either roll.

Improved Protection

When you are subjected to an effect that allows you to make a Constitution saving throw to take only half damage, you may expend your reaction to instead take no damage on a success and only half damage on a failure.

When you are in formation, each creature in formation gains a +1 bonus to all saving throws.

Improved Two-Weapon Fighting

When you engage in two-weapon fighting, you can make an additional attack with your off-hand weapon as part of the same Bonus Action. When you reach 20th level in this class, you may make 2 additional attacks as part of the same Bonus Action instead.

When you are in a formation, you gain a +1 bonus to all future weapon damage rolls whenever you hit a creature with a weapon attack. These bonuses are cumulative, and reset to 0 at the end of your turn.

Fan Out

At 15th level, your stellar leadership allows you to maintain control of far broader formations.

You may create formations with creatures up to 15 feet away from you.

You may add creatures to your formations that are up to 15 feet away from you.

Creatures in formations you create may end their turn up to 15 feet away from another creature in same formation and still remain in formation.

Creatures in formations you create can be subjected to an effect which places them up to 15 feet away from another creature in formation and still remain in formation.

Pack Mentality

At 18th level, while you are in a formation, you and other creatures within your formation gain the Pack Tactics ability.

Additionally, you and all creatures in formation with you gain temporary hitpoints at the beginning of their turns equal to the number of creatures in formation.
