Base Class: Bard
Bards that prefer to doze off in their respective colleges instead of paying attention, instead lean towards the “college” of the Dreamweaver. Their focus is applying their powers to the dreams they much preferred to the waking world, and stretching the boundaries between the two. This is primarily a support subclass, featuring mainly Utility with light CC, as well as consistent item conjuration (including tools).
Sweet, Sour, and Sultry Sleep
The dreams of those around you can be influenced by your mere presence, and are a vessel for you. As an action, you can target one creature within 60ft who is either Sleeping, or is deemed by the DM to be “daydreaming”. They must make a Wisdom saving throw (at advantage if they are “daydreaming” against your Spell Save DC. A willing creature can choose to fail this save. On a failure, you can cause one of the following effects:
- Nightmare: The nightmare appears in their dreams, causing 2d4 Psychic damage. This damage increases to 4d4 at 5th level, 6d4 at 11th, and 8d4 at 17tth. If the target is “daydreaming”, they also hallucinate the Nightmare in an unoccupied space of your choice within 10ft of the target, and have the Frightened condition based from where they perceive the Nightmare to be. The Nightmare is merely a figment of their imagination, can only be seen by you and them, and cannot be interacted with in any way.
- Lucidity: You grant the target self-awareness in their dream, allowing them to rest in the quickest of moments. The target continues their current rest for 1 minute, in which time they gain the effects of a Short Rest. If they are interrupted from their dream before the minute passes, the effect is canceled and they do not gain the rest.
- Sleep Paralysis: The target becomes trapped within their own dream, unable to escape their own mind. The target is Stunned for one round. If the target is “daydreaming”, the target is also knocked Prone and counts as Unconscious for that round.
Insomnia
At 3rd level, you no longer need to sleep, and magic cannot put you to sleep. You can gain the effects of a Long Rest via stationary daydreaming for 6 hours.
Pierce The Veil
As the veil between dreams and reality weakens, your power grows. As an action, you can daydream of a non-magical item, and conjure it from your dream. The item you conjure appears as a slightly-translucent, greyscale, flickering version of itself, but still retains the physical properties and tangibility of the item you daydreamt. (i.e. a Greatsword summoned with this ability would act as a normal greatsword for combat, but is clearly identifiable as a non-authentic item). The item appears either in your hand/hands, or in an unoccupied space within 30ft of you.
The item summoned MUST have a listed gold value in the PHB or DMG, and that value cannot exceed 20 times your Bard level. The item’s size category can be Large (10x10x10ft) or smaller. At 14th level, it can be Huge (15x15x15ft) or smaller.
You can dispel this item with a bonus action, as it fades into the nothing it was created from. This item lasts for a number of hours equal to your Proficiency modifier, and you can only have one item conjured with this ability at a time. If you conjure another item while you have an item conjured, the first item instantly disappears before the new item appears. If you are occupying someone’s dream, you can have two items conjured at once instead of one.
(Any items conjured with this ability should be discussed with your DM prior to session, so they have adequate time to prepare a mini/import a token for the item)
The Dreamweaver Express
Finally submitting yourself to the power of dreams, you can climb aboard the metaphorical train. During a short or long rest, you and a number of allies equal to your proficiency bonus can catch a ride on the Dreamweaver express, and travel to any location on the same plane of existence as you are currently on that you have marked with a Dream Waypoint. You and your allies appear there at the end of your rest, having gained the effects of said rest, in unoccupied spaces within 30ft of the destination.
You can create a Dream Waypoint by spending 1 minute meditating, resulting in a Dream Waypoint appearing within 5ft of you. You can have a number of Dream Waypoints equal to your Proficiency Bonus at one time. If you attempt to create another Dream Waypoint and have no more Waypoints available, the first Waypoint created is deleted and replaced with the new Waypoint.
