Monk
Base Class: Monk

Warriors of all creeds envy and revere Sun WuKong, their power, speed, and energy are nearly unmatched amongst even the most god. Monks of the Way of the Monkey King seek to externalize their Ki, emulating the great god, Sun WuKong, turning it into fuel which stokes the roaring winds inside them.

Teachings of Subhuti

Starting at the 3rd level, you may perform certain feats that were taught to your monastery by the Monkey King himself.

Feng Quan:

You gain a new attack option that you can use with the Attack action, hurling bolts of wind. This special attack is a ranged spell attack with a range of 30 feet. You are proficient with it, and you add your Wisdom modifier to its attack and damage rolls. Its damage is piercing or cold, and its damage die is a d4. This die changes as you gain monk levels, as shown in the Martial Arts column of the Monk table. Additionally, any magical items that benefit your unarmed strikes also apply to this special attack.

When you take the Attack action on your turn and use this special attack as part of it, you can spend 1 ki point to make the special attack twice as a bonus action.

When you gain the Extra Attack feature, this special attack can be used for any of the attacks you make as part of the Attack action.

Guanyin Palm:

When you use Step of the Wind, you may wreath your hands, feet, and quarterstaff with the roaring winds. Your unarmed attacks, quarterstaff or Feng Quan deal an additional 1d6 piercing damage for one minute, up to 10d6. Additionally, when you use patient defense, you may choose to increase your AC by 1 for a minute (up to 10).

Jin Gu Bang:

As part of an attack action, you may extend a quarterstaff's reach by 5 feet.

Body Outside of Body

Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can create a perfect copy of yourself.

You can use a bonus action to magically manifest an clone in an unoccupied space you can see within 15 feet of you. This looks exactly like you that lasts until it is destroyed, until you dismiss it as a bonus action, until you create another clone, or until you're incapacitated.

Your clone has AC equal to yours, 1 hit point, and immunity to all conditions. If it has to make a saving throw, it uses your saving throw bonus for the roll. It is the same size as you, and it occupies its space. On your turn, you can mentally command the clone to move up to 30 feet in any direction (no action required). If your clone is ever more than 30 feet from you at the end of your turn, it is destroyed.

  • As a bonus action, you can teleport, magically swapping places with your clone at a cost of 15 feet of your movement, regardless of the distance between the two of you.
  • When you take the Attack action on your turn, any attack you make with that action can originate from your space or the clone's space. You make this choice for each attack.
  • When a creature that you can see within 5 feet of your clone moves at least 5 feet away from it, you can use your reaction to make an opportunity attack against that creature as if you were in the clone's space.

At the 7th level, your ability to create clones and command them have become superior and allows for complex maneuvers. Your clones now have hit points equal to you monk level and they can take can take an singular attack action that deals 1 + wisdom modifier without sacrificing your attacks.

At the 13th level, your ability to create clones becomes unrivaled. You may now have 2 clones active at a time.

Monkey Mimickry

Starting at 6th level, to add to your tricky tactics, you learn to use minimal Ki to coat yourself and create the illusion that you and/or your clone is someone else.

At the end of short rest or long rest, you can spend 1 Ki points to gain the ability to cast Disguise Self  on yourself at will. When casting Disguise Self, you can target your clone as well and you can change your body type. This lasts until you complete a short or long rest.

At level 10, you can spend 2 Ki points to cast Alter Self. When casting Alter Self,  your basic shape does not have to remain the same.

Additionally, you gain proficiency in Deception and can use your wisdom modifier instead of charisma modifier.

Fiery Golden Eyes

At the 6th level, you have meditate in a fire cauldron for 49 days like Sun Wukong once did before you.

You gain proficiency in perception. If you already have proficiency,  your proficiency bonus is doubled for perception. While you have a clone, you gain advantage in perception and insight.

Additionally, for 1 Ki, you gain advantage in perception and insight even when a clone is not active for an hour.

At level 11, you gain the ability to spend 1 ki point as a bonus action to gain True Sight for 6 seconds or until the end of your turn.

Companion of the Nimbus Cloud

When you reach 11th level you gain some of the wind magic that The Monkey King was known for.

You can also expend 1 ki points to cast one of the following spells without material or somatic components; Zephyr Strike, Gust of Wind, Warding Wind and Wall of Wind.  These spells are cast at their lowest level, and Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for them. If the target is self, you can cast it on you or your clone.

Additionally,  as an action, you can spend 4 ki points to summon your Nimbus cloud. Your nimbus acts as a cushy platform for you to ride around on. While riding your Nimbus you have a fly speed equal to twice your movement.

If you are separated from your Nimbus you can call it to you as a bonus action, but if you are separated from your Nimbus Cloud for more than 1 minute it disappears and you must use 4 ki points and an action to summon it again.

Heavenly Transformations

When they reach 17th level the Followers of the Monkey King gain their master’s ability to shapeshift into various forms, animate or inanimate. At the cost of 8 ki points you can cast the Shapechange spell on yourself, requiring no material components. However the transformation is never permanent, and you revert to your normal form as soon as concentration is broken or one hour has passed. It is not possible to use this feature while maintaining a clone. Most followers that reach this level of mastery favor the form of a giant ape as their primary alternate polymorphed form.
