Bard
Base Class: Bard

“A young prodigy summons her dragon kin in the midst of her enemies, blowing away the competition.”

“A chased jester, faced with no other choice, jumps into the ocean to escape being headless. He swims with a might that none other but a dragon could.”

Bards of this college are revered by many, as being in this college often entails that a dragon chose them specifically to represent themselves. They may either be chosen by a dragon who has sensed or noticed them in some way, or they may bring offerings to a dragon they would like to bond with. The Bards, then, can use their performances to encourage or frighten others or even summon their own dragon’s kin. Bards of this college study the ancient and traditional ways of their dragons and related kin. Learning how to use it for themselves to make their performances even more enthralling. Some are even taught by the dragon in person.

Bonus Profiencies

When you join the College of Draconic Kinship at 3rd level, you gain Proficiency in 1 skill from these: Animal Handling, History, Insight, Intimidation, Nature, and Religion. If you are already proficient in the chosen skill add double your proficiency.

Also, if you do not already know draconic, you gain knowledge of the draconic language as well.

Draconic Hymn

At 3rd level you gain knowledge of traditional draconian hymns, ancient melodies passed down by dragons of old.

You may expend a use of your bardic inspiration die to perform a draconic hymn. Performing the hymn is a bonus action, and you can only maintain one hymn at a time. The hymn effects last for 1 minute unless otherwise noted, until ended voluntarily, until another hymn is performed, or if you fall unconscious, but not if you are otherwise incapacitated. Hymns are not concentration as you know them by heart so other spells and abilities can be used while its effects are in place. Unless otherwise noted, a hymn affects you and all of your allies within 30 ft of you that can hear you. Your hymn bonus is equal to your proficiency bonus + how many hymns you currently know.

When you join this college, you learn 1 of the following hymns. You learn an additional hymn at 5th, 8th, 10th, 14th and 20th levels. Each time you learn a hymn, you may choose any of the below options.

Dance of the Elements

A creature that attacks you or an ally with a melee weapon takes 2 points of elemental damage, based on a dragon of your choice, per point of your hymn bonus.

Draconic Rhythm

Whenever a creature makes an attack roll on you or another ally within 10 feet of you, you may activate this hymn and give a +5 to AC. This hymn ends immediately afterwards.

Flight of Dragons

You gain the ability to expend a bardic inspiration dice to sprout a pair of dragon wings from your back, gaining a flying speed equal to your speed. This hymn lasts for 10 minutes times the number rolled on the inspiration dice.

Golden Age of Dragons

Parts of your skin are covered by a thin sheen of dragon-like scales, these can be of a different color or the same color as your skin, whichever you choose. If you aren’t wearing armor, your AC equals 13 + your Dexterity modifier. This hymn lasts for 8 hours

Heart of Dragons

You and your allies gain resistance to an elemental damage relating to a dragon of your choice.

Rejuvenation Ritual

Once sung, this hymn lasts for 8 hours. You and allies that were given a bardic inspiration die may spend the bardic inspiration to regain that many hit points plus your hymn bonus.

The Dragon’s Sacred Presence

You gain a bonus on Deception, Intimidation, and Persuasion checks equal to your hymn bonus.

The Dragons and the Dreaming

You may use your reaction to give advantage on all attack rolls made with the addition of an inspiration die if the attack did not hit.

The Dragon's Charm

You and any friendly creatures within range have advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed. A creature must be able to hear you to gain this benefit.

The Draconic Connection

At 6th level, you gain a mystical connection to a specific dragon, granting you additional magical abilities. You may not know who or what your dragon is yet, but through the spells you gain and the kin you summon, you may be able to assume some things about them. It can say yes or no, if it says no then you may force a connection with it through proving your worth.

You learn two spells from any spell list, but they must be spells that are in some way related to your dragon. This could mean spells related to the same energy as a dragon’s breath weapon (lightning, fire, acid, etc.), spells that alter your shape or form, or other spells of the like. Your GM will assign you these spells, give you a list of choices, or approve your own personal choices. The spells must be of a level you can currently cast. Any spells gained this way count as bard spells for you, and do not count against your maximum number of spells known.

Call of Kin

Also at 6th level you gain the ability to perform a difficult performance to call upon a manifestation of your connected dragon. This performance is a ritual that takes up to 10 minutes to do and has a performance DC of 17, on a successful performance you summon a wrmling variant of your bonded dragon even if there isn't technically a stat block for one, it acts as if summoned by the find familiar spell, however it lasts for 12 hours. It also has a hit point total equal to your bard level multiplied by ten, and can be used as a mount or to carry messages. It has a flight speed of 60, can carry you and one passenger, you and up to 100 pound of cargo, or 200 pounds of cargo and no rider. If the manifestation is killed you may make the performance again with a DC of 13 to re-summon it.

The Bonding Finale

At 14th level, you discover a cache of knowledge related to the specific dragon with whom you are destined to Bond with. This cache may include its name, rumors about the location of its lair, its personality, legends of its exploits etc. You always gain knowledge of the performance you must do in order to impress the dragon. This can happen through a mystical note, a mystical guide, a book you’ve discovered, the gods giving you this knowledge, a chance encounter etc. The knowledge given may not be everything that was listed.

Once your dragon is found, you may begin the Bonding Ceremony. You begin the performance of your dragon’s liking for 10 minutes, upon successful completion of the performance you are bonded to the dragon. However, in this time, in order to successfully bond with the dragon you will need to make checks to all your saving throws. The checks DC are equal to the Dragon’s base stats. You get 3 chances per check to succeed on all of them. If you are able to, you can expend one use of your bardic inspiration to give yourself an inspiration die for any of the checks. If you end up failing two of the checks on all 3 tries you fail the bonding and gain 1 level of exhaustion. You may retry the performance the next day.

Once you are bonded, you and your dragon create a deep heartfelt connection with each other. It is not always a romantic relationship, sometimes manifesting as friendships or even the relationship of a pair of siblings or parent to child. The bond even allows you to locate each other telepathically. You can call upon your dragon to try and summon it to you as long as it is willing. If it is unwilling then the summon fails automatically. The summon takes concentration for 1 hour and you can do no other actions while attempting this. The summon lasts for as long as the dragon is willing to stay or for 24 hours. You can only use it once every week after the dragon leaves. If you are interrupted during the summon, the dragon may come to your aid anyway as it sensed you calling to it.
