Base Class: Barbarian
Some people are driven to extreme ends by their desire to survive. These warriors channel their fury into consuming the essence of their fallen foes, gaining power from those they feast upon. While any race can learn the ways of the Carnivore, it is most common among demi-human and bestial races like tabaxi, leonin, or shifters who live in harsher areas.
Carnivorous Instinct
3rd-level Path of the Carnivore feature
When you enter your rage, you gain darkvision of 60 ft and your teeth extend into vicious fangs. Until the rage ends, you manifest a natural weapon. It counts as a simple melee weapon for you, and you add your Strength modifier to the attack and damage rolls when you attack with it, as normal.
Bite. Your mouth transforms into a vicious fangs. It deals 1d8 piercing damage on a hit. Once on each of your turns when you reduce a creature to 0 HP with this bite, you can immediately use your reaction to take the Consume Essence action.
Consume Essence
3rd-level Path of the Carnivore feature
Once per rage, as an action, you can consume part of a fallen foe, regaining health equal to your barbarian level. Based on the creature type you consume, you also gain certain benefits for 10 minutes. You may only gain the benefit from 1 creature type at a time. If you use Consume Essence more times than your CON, you must make a CON saving throw equal to 5 x the number of creature types you have used Consume Essence on (the DC resets on a long rest). On a fail, you suffer 1 point of exhaustion per creature type you have used Consume Essence on since your last long rest.
Beast- you gain the Keen Senses trait and your Bite attack has advantage against creatures that have less than half of their maximum health points.
Humanoid- you gain proficiency in 1 language, 1 skill, and 1 tool of your choice. Additionally, while raging any CHA check you make against humanoids has advantage.
Plant- you gain the False Appearance trait and while raging you have immunity to being blinded or deafened.
Undead- you gain the Undead Fortitude trait and while raging you have immunity to being poisoned or to disease.
Improved Carnivorous Instinct
6th-level Path of the Carnivore feature
The feral survival instincts within you increases, causing the natural weapons of your Bite to count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.
Improved Consume Essence
6th-level Path of the Carnivore feature
You can gain benefits from two creature types at once and may now gain certain benefits from the following creature types:
Dragon- you gain +1 to your AC and your Bite attack deals an additional 1d8 elemental damage of that dragon’s type (2d8 at level 10).
Fey- you gain immunity to the charmed condition and while raging you have advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Fiend- you gain immunity to the frightened condition and while raging you gain the Devil’s Sight trait.
Giant- you are considered one size larger, your carrying capacity is doubled, and while raging attacks against creatures that are two or more sizes smaller than you have advantage.
Ooze- you gain immunity to being grappled or restrained and while raging you deal acid damage equal to your proficiency bonus to any creature that hits you with a melee attack.
Superior Carnivorous Instinct
10th-level Path of the Carnivore feature
When you enter a rage your darkvision is now 120 ft and your Bite deals 2d8 piercing damage.
Superior Consume Essence
10th-level Path of the Carnivore feature
Benefits now last for 1 hour and you may now gain certain benefits from the following creature types:
Aberration- you gain resistance to psychic damage, are immune to the effects of divination spells unless you choose to be affected, and while raging you can communicate telepathically with any creature you can see.
Celestial- you gain resistance to radiant damage and while raging you manifest a pair of angelic wings granting you a flying speed equal to your movement.
Elemental- you gain immunity to the damage type of that elemental, can speak and understand Primordial, and while raging you ignore all magical or non-magical difficult terrain. Additionally, when you enter a rage, you may expend an extra use of rage to summon an elemental of that type according to Summon Elemental, without requiring concentration.
Monstrosity- you gain the Unusual Nature trait and while raging all of your melee attacks gain the Reach property. Additionally, if the monstrosity consumed had an ability that recharges you gain access to that ability while raging.
Master Carnivore
14th-level Path of the Carnivore feature
When you enter a rage while under the effects of one or more benefits from Consume Essence, you can pick another creature that you can see to gain these benefits as well for 1 minute. In addition, reaching 6 levels of exhaustion no longer kills you but instead you drop to 0 health immediately, are incapacitated but stable, and cannot be healed by any magical means (ie- spells or potions) for 24 hours. After 24 hours, you awake with 1 health and can roll 1d4 to recover that many levels of exhaustion. In addition, the benefits of a creature type from Consume Essence now last until you take a long rest or replace them with a benefit of a different creature type. You may now gain the benefits of three different creature types at one time. You roll all CON saving throws with advantage.
