Cleric
Base Class: Cleric

This subclass is made for the Into The Maw campaign, a dungeon dive story into the heart of a newly discovered island known as Sleeping Queen Island. Many an adventurer has attempted to travel into the impossible chasm of this island, The Maw. The Maw is so named because it draws adventurers in, and then imposes a physical and mental toll to leave, thus causing many explorers to be “devoured” by the landscape itself. This phenomenon is known as the Burden, and all adventurers must be willing to bear its consequences in order to enter the Maw. As much as these strange powers might be the death of you, they could also let you survive another day—if you play your cards right.

There are many approaches to divination, and not all are as clean or easy as palm reading or stargazing. The Haruspex inspects the entrails of sacrificed creatures to see the past, present, and future, and to communicate with their chosen entity. While other clerics struggle to communicate with their deities in The Maw without easy access to temples and the blurring of planes of reality in the deeper Rings, the Haruspex deals in solid flesh, and can read messages from their deities in organ and bone just as easily as anyone could read print on paper. However, as they delve deeper into The Maw, it may not always be their deity that is contacting them...

Clerics in the Haruspicy Domain may pledge themselves to entities of any moral alignment, so long as the entity in question favors maintaining a strong stomach in the pursuit of knowledge. Examples of these deities include Apollo, Istus, Wee Jas, Vecna, and Afflux. However, some Haruspices choose to follow the call of flesh itself, of the psalms that flesh and bone sing, of the invisible lines that show which cuts will heal and which will kill. After all, is not the material that we are made of worthy of worship?

Bonus Proficiency

When you choose this domain at 1st level, you gain proficiency with the Herbalism Kit. You also gain proficiency in one of the following skills of your choice: Animal Handling, Medicine, or Nature.

Butcher

At the 1st level, you can hear omens from the blood of your kills. When you bring a creature that you can see to 0 HP, you gain advantage on your next roll. You also learn one Divination or Necromancy cantrip. This cantrip counts as a cleric cantrip for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of cleric cantrips you know.

Channel Divinity: Entrails

Starting at 2nd level, you can use your Channel Divinity to glimpse into the future. You conduct a ten-minute ritual using a dagger and a living or recently (within 24 hours) deceased creature. Roll two d20s and record the numbers rolled. You can replace any attack roll, saving throw, or ability check made by you or a creature that you can see with one of these foretelling rolls. You must choose to do so before the roll, and you can replace a roll in this way only once per turn.

Each foretelling roll can be used only once. As you gain the ability to Channel Divinity multiple times per day, you may stack foretelling rolls. However, you lose any unused foretelling rolls when you finish a long rest.

Channel Divinity: Bloody Mercy

Beginning at 6th level, you can use your Channel Divinity to heal an ally as you deal damage to a foe. When one of your attacks deals damage, you may select one ally within 30 feet of you. This ally gains hit points equal to the damage that the enemy took.

Divine Strike

At 8th level, you gain the ability to infuse your weapon strikes with divine energy. Once on each of your turns, you may add your Wisdom modifier to an attack roll made with a slashing or piercing melee weapon. You may choose to do this after you make the Attack roll, but before the DM says whether or not it hits. When you reach 14th level, if this attack hits, it also deals an extra 1d8 piercing or slashing damage, depending on your weapon's damage type.

Purveyor of the Dead

At 17th level, your blessed affinity with flesh becomes more powerful. You gain immunity to necrotic damage, and resistance to piercing and slashing damage from nonmagical attacks.
