Base Class: Bard
Rarely recognised as being part of a true bardic college, those bards who make up the College of Tradition are the storytellers of their kin. Whether it is by hollering tall tales of their family legacy in a tavern, or whispering stories of their clan or tribe around a campfire, these bards are the protectors of folklore, dances, and songs.
Masters of oral history, these bards encourage their allies to join the ranks of legends with the same stories and songs which bolstered the heroes of old.
Once they have upheld their duty of teaching the young, these bards will often leave their community in search of new tales and legends to pass on; many along the way become legends themselves, carving their names into history for future generations to recount their deeds.
Oral Historian
Starting at 3rd level you gain expertise in History and Religion, learn to read, write and speak 2 languages of your choice and gain proficiency with 3 musical instruments of your choice.
Tall Tales
When you join this college at 3rd level, you learn how to sing the tales of your homeland with newfound enthusiasm, and a sprinkle of magic.
You can spend 5 minutes and a bardic inspiration to perform a song, telling a legend or myth from your homeland in an exaggerated fashion. You and up to 4 creatures who can hear the song within 30 feet are invigorated, gaining a number of temporary hitpoints equal to your bard level + your bardic inspiration. The temporary hitpoints will vanish after 8 hours.
You can use this ability once between long rests.
Right Thing at the Right Time
Many adventurers were raised with the stories of the great heroes of the past, pushing them to seek glory and adventure beyond the confines of the nest. During the darkest moments of an adventurer's life, those stories are exactly what they need to hear to overcome their toughest challenges, and at 6th level you are able to deliver these stories to them, right when they need them most.
Anyone who uses one of your Bardic Inspiration dice gets to add your Charisma modifier (to a minimum of 1) to the roll.
Heart of the People
At 6th level, you are able to channel a Soothing Song, which comforts your allies and friends during times of peril.
As an action, you can start performing a Soothing Song to aid your party. You and a number of people equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1) who can hear the song within 30 feet of you, gain a passive healing effect when they are within that range. At the beginning of your turn, every creature affected regains hitpoints equal to half of your bard level (rounded down).
The song lasts for one minute and you can use your action each turn to add a d6 to the healing received. Unconcious creatures are unaffected by this song, even if chosen.
The song functions the same way as any other concentration spell: it requires you to make a Con saving throw when hit by an attack, the DC of which is equal to 10, or half of the damage taken (whichever is greater). You can cast spells during the song but casting a spell that requires concentration will end the song early. The song can be interrupted at any moment (no action required).
You can use this ability again after a long rest.
Legends in the Making
Instead of empowering your allies by recounting legends and myths from the past, you instead choose this moment as one which deserves to be preserved in history, as you and your allies aspire to rise to the ranks of legends.
At 14th level, as an action, you can use one of your Bardic Inspirations to grant you and your allies Supreme Inspiration. For the next minute, you plus a number of creatures equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1) gain the following abilities:
- You gain temporary hitpoints equal to your bard level.
- Your movement speed is increased by 10ft.
- You gain resistance to one damage type of your choice.
- You gain advantage on all ability checks and saves, including death saving throws.
- Every chosen creature gains a bardic inspiration.
You can use this ability again after a long rest.
