Base Class: Cleric
Pain, grief, loss. To live is to suffer, and to suffer is to live. So embrace your pain, and revel in life!
This subclass was created as part of the Subclasseptember 2022 challenge!
Domain Spells
Each domain has a list of spells - its domain spells that you gain at the cleric levels noted in the domain description. Once you gain a domain spell, you always have it prepared, and it doesn’t count against the number of spells you can prepare each day.
If you have a domain spell that doesn’t appear on the cleric spell list, the spell is nonetheless a cleric spell for you.
( Searing Smite, Cloud of Daggers, and Immolation can't be added for legal reasons.)
| Cleric Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| 1st | hellish rebuke, searing smite |
| 3rd | cloud of daggers, ray of enfeeblement |
| 5th | bestow curse, vampiric touch |
| 7th | Evard’s black tentacles, phantasmal killer |
| 9th | contagion, immolation |
Bonus Proficiencies
At 1st level, you gain proficiency with martial weapons and heavy armor.
Cutting Edge
Also starting at 1st level, you can store a creature’s pain within yourself to unleash upon your foes. When a creature within 30 feet of yourself takes damage, you can use your reaction to store a number of points equal to the damage dealt within a pool of energy. In addition, whenever you restore hit points to a creature using a spell, you can add the number of hit points restored to your Cutting Edge pool as part of the same action.
You can store a maximum number of points within this pool up to five times your cleric level. Whenever you finish a long rest, your pool empties, losing any points.
When you hit a creature with an attack, you can expend any number of points from this pool, increasing your damage dealt by the number of points spent.
You cannot use an attack bolstered by Cutting Edge to refill your Cutting Edge pool.
Channel Divinity: Fragile Flesh
Starting at 2nd level, you can reveal the weaknesses of the mortal form, enfeebling your foe’s defenses. As an action, you can curse a creature within 30 feet for 1 minute. While cursed in this way, the target takes additional damage equal to your proficiency bonus whenever it takes damage.
Revel in Life
At 6th level, you understand the truth of suffering and life - that they are one and the same. If you are below half of your maximum Hit Points, you have advantage on attack rolls, and gain a bonus to your AC equal to your proficiency bonus.
Divine Strike
At 8th level, you gain the ability to infuse your weapon strikes with necrotic energy. Once on each of your turns when you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can cause the attack to deal an a 1d8 necrotic damage to the target. When you reach 14th level, the extra damage increases to 2d8.
Painful Revelation
At 17th level, you can touch the minds of others to briefly reveal the truth of the world to them. You learn the spell power word: pain, and can cast it without expending a spell slot. When you do so, you can choose for any number of creatures within range to be targeted by the spell.
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
(Power Word Pain also can't be added for legal reasons.)
