Base Class: Wizard
After death, what becomes of an individuals soul? Some believe they pass on to another realm. Others believe they are reincarnated as another being. While this may be true to some, it is not true for the Soul Slinger. To a Soul Slinger, the souls of the deceased becomes a resource of great power. They can use souls to produce powerful arcane effects, learn dark and ancient secrets, and even cheat death.
Steal Soul
When you choose the Soul Slinger arcane tradition at 2nd level, you create a Soul Capsule for storing the souls of the dead. This could be a vial, an urn, jewelry, or even your own hair. Regardless of the form it takes, your Soul Capsule can only store a number of souls equal to your proficiency bonus.
Soul Slingers also gain the ability to perform a ritual that harvests the souls of the recently dead. This ritual must be performed within 10 minutes of the target's death, and takes 9 minutes to complete. When you complete the ritual, you learn the alignment of the soul. Make sure to mark this down when you harvest the soul, as it will come into play when you use it.
Sling Soul
When a soul is in your Soul Canister, you can use its energy to empower your spells. Whenever you cast a spell of 1st level or higher, you can infuse it with a soul, expending the soul in the process. Different souls have different effects on your spells, depending on their alignment. You cannot infuse the same spell with multiple souls.
The soul-infused spell has different effects depending on the alignment of the soul:
- Lawful: Treat any attack roll or saving throw required in the spell's effects as a 10.
- Neutral: immediately after casting the spell, you may teleport 10 feet.
- Chaotic: you cast an additional spell on yourself at random as a free action. Roll a d6 to determine the additional spell you cast. Each spell has a target of Self.
- 1: jump
- 2: goodberry
- 3: longstrider
- 4: sanctuary
- 5: armor of agathys
- 6: cure wounds
Summon Soul
At 6th level, you can manifest souls as your own summons. As an action, you can expend a soul instead of a spell slot to cast a summoning spell. The alignment determines which spell is cast. As you gain levels in Wizard, you gain access to higher level summoning spells.
Level 6:
Lawful: summon undead
Neutral: summon fey
Chaotic: summon shadowspawn
Level 8:
Lawful: summon construct
Neutral: summon elemental
Chaotic: summon aberration
Level 10:
Lawful: summon celestial
Neutral: summon draconic spirit
Level 12:
Chaotic: summon fiend
Skew Soul
When you reach 10th level, you gain the ability to change a soul's alignment. As an action, you can modify a soul's alignment. You cannot change a Chaotic soul to a Lawful soul or vice-versa, and you can only change each soul once.
You can do this twice per short rest.
Snatch Soul
At 14th level, Harvesting the Souls of the Weak becomes easier. When a creature within 30 feet of you dies, you can use your reaction to steal its soul and add it to your Soul Capsule, no ritual required.
You can use this ability twice per short rest.
