Monk
Base Class: Monk

Many monastic traditions teach discipline over emotions and thought. As a practitioner of the Impassioned Soul tradition, you know that true strength, enlightenment, and purity comes from human emotion. Instead of training to harness your emotions, you've been trained to let them course freely through you, empowering your strikes and bolstering your presence.

Passionate Stance

3rd-level Way of the Impassioned Soul feature

You gain proficiency in the Intimidation and Persuasion skills. You can also use your Charisma modifier in place of your Strength modifier when you make unarmed strike attacks.

You also gain the ability to accentuate your actions with a strong current of emotion. You can spend 1 ki point as a bonus action to enter this emotional stance. As another bonus action you can cancel your stance or you can switch to another stance by spending another ki point.

Fury. When you enter this stance, rage boils over in a torrent of volcanic fury. When you roll damage with monk weapon attacks, including your Flurry of Blows strikes, you can treat any ones rolled as twos.

Sorrow. When you enter this stance, melancholy floods your body with numbing sorrow. Your armor class increases by 1.

Joy. When you enter this stance, the bright glow of pure joy illuminates your form. Your speed increases by 10 feet and your body emits dim light in a ten foot radius.

Terror. When you enter this stance, a dark note of terror suffuses your bones. Attacks against you within 5 feet of you have disadvantage imposed upon them.

Impassioned Fist

6th-level Way of The Impassioned Soul feature

You can channel a brief burst of emotion through your unarmed strikes. While your Passionate Stance is active, you can spend at least 1 ki point to channel emotional energy into your target equal to a roll of your Martial Arts die + your Charisma modifier. For every extra ki point you spend, increase the number of Martial Arts dies by 1. A creature can only be affected by this damage once per turn.

The damage type is determined by your Passionate Stance.

Fury. You deal fire damage.

Sorrow. You deal cold damage.

Joy. You deal radiant damage.

Terror. You deal necrotic damage.

Improved Passionate Stances

11th-level Way of The Impassioned Soul feature

Your emotions flow freely from your soul through your form, altering your body. Your Passionate Stances improve.

Fury. Fires of rage burn behind your eyes as you lash out recklessly. You can make two unarmed strikes with your bonus action and three unarmed strikes with your Flurry of Blows.

Sorrow. Tears flow endlessly from your eyes mirroring your boundless sadness. You can use your reaction when your take acid, cold, fire, lightning, poison, or thunder damage to gain resistance to that type of damage till the end of your next turn.

Joy. The purity of your inner happiness can no longer be contained by your mortal form. When a creature attacks you and misses, you can use your reaction to move half of your speed in any direction without taking opportunity attacks from it. Your body emits dim light in a 20 foot radius.

Terror. Dangers lurk all about as you lose yourself to fear. When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can choose to push it 10 feet away from you in a straight line.

Perfected Passionate Stance

17th-level Way of The Impassioned Soul feature

You have not mastered your emotions, you have become them. You no longer have to spend ki points to change between stances and can do so as a Reaction.

Each stance also improves.

Fury. Every moment, every breath, burns with pure fury. As a bonus action, you can spend 2 ki points to let out a furious roar, dealing 2d6 fire damage in a 15 foot cube centered around yourself. All creatures affected by the damage must make a Wisdom saving throw equal to 8 + your Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus or become frightened of you.

Sorrow. The air around you becomes suffused with sorrow, leading limbs. All space within a 20-foot cube around you becomes difficult terrain, even for flying creatures.

Joy. Boundless joy carries your spirit to unimaginable heights. You gain a flying speed of 40 feet while in this stance, but must land at the end of your movement. Your body emits bright light in a 10-foot radius and dim light for 30 feet beyond that.

Terror. The world is a terrifying place and everyone should know that. As a bonus action, you can spend 3 ki points to touch a creature within 5 feet of you. The creature must make a Charisma saving throw equal to 8 + your Charisma modifier + your proficiency bonus. On a failed save it takes 6d8 psychic damage as your transfer your pure terror into its mind and falls prone. On a successful save it only takes half damage.
