Monk
Base Class: Monk

Monks that follow the way of the twilight have an intense connection to the sky and the celestial bodies that rule it. They learn to channel and draw from the innate ki in the sun and in the moon, entering two different states of meditation and self: the sun and the moon, aggression and defence, heat and cold, yin and yang.

One is not enough however, one is not complete. These monks know that there’s both beauty and power in balance, in transition and in change, they move their ki and their spiritual selves back and forth in the intricate dance of the twilight.

Celestial Scholar

Beginning when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, your study over the celestial bodies has proven fruitful. You gain proficiency with [tool]Navigator’s Tools[/tool] and you always know where north is at night, as well as the number of hours till the next dawn or sunset.

Twilight Dance

Also at 3rd level, you have learnt to weave back and forth between two spiritual states: Sun and Moon, and the beautiful balance between them, the graceful dance of the twilight.

Whenever you finish a short or long rest, choose between one of these two spiritual states, Sun and Moon. They last until you finish a short or long rest, or you change to the other one, which you may do by expending 1 ki point at the beginning of your turn (no action required).

Additionally, whenever you use your Patient Defense or Step of the Wind features, you switch to the Moon state, and whenever you use your Flurry of Blows feature, you switch to the Sun state. There is no choice in doing so.

Whenever you change to the Sun state, creatures within 5 feet of you take radiant damage equal to your Wisdom modifier, and while in this state, you gain the following benefits:

  • Celestial Strikes: Your unarmed strikes deal radiant damage instead of bludgeoning damage.
  • Solar Beacon: You may use your bonus action to have your fists emit bright light for 20 feet, and dim light for an additional 20 feet.
  • Sun Spellcasting: You know the Sacred Flame cantrip, Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell.

Whenever you change to the Moon state, you may move up to 10 feet in any direction, and while in this state, you gain the following benefits:

  • Lunar Steps: Your walking speed increases by 10 feet.
  • Moon-Blessed Sight: You may use a bonus action on your turn to, until the end of your turn, sense magic on objects, creatures or areas you can see within 15 feet of you.
  • Moon Spellcasting: You know the Minor Illusion cantrip, Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell.

Heavenly Step

Starting at 6th level, you have learnt that sometimes changing back to the beginning can be a good thing. At the end of your turn, you may magically move in a straight line back to the space you occupied at the beginning of your turn. This ability is altered depending on which state of your Twilight dance you are currently in.

If you are on the Sun state, a line of radiance and heat forms in between the two points, as creatures on that line must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw against your Ki save DC or take radiant damage equal to twice your monk level + your Wisdom modifier, taking half as much on a successful save. If there is a solid object in between the two points, you stop moving at the object.

If you are in the Moon state, while moving this way, you do not trigger opportunity attacks, you are invisible, and you can move through solid objects. When you finish moving, you gain temporary hit points equal to your monk level.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Improved Twilight Dance

At 11th level, your Twilight Dance becomes more powerful, as you gain more benefits while in either of these states.

While in the Sun state, you gain the following additional benefits:

  • Sun Aura: You may spend 3 ki points as a bonus action to shine with the light of the sun for 1 minute, as you shine bright light in a 10 foot radius, and dim light for an additional 10 feet. While in that bright light, each non-hostile creature in it (including you) has advantage on the first attack they make each turn.
  • Solar Explosion: Once per turn when you hit with an unarmed strike, you may expend 1 ki point and cause a solar explosion with your strike, as the hit creature and creatures other than you within 5 feet of it must succeed on a Constitution saving throw against your Ki save DC or take 2d8 radiant damage, taking half as much on a successful save.

While in the Moon state, you gain the following additional benefits:

  • Lunar Aura: You may spend 3 ki points as an action to emit an aura that extends 10 feet from you in all directions, emitting the shrouding magic of the moon. For 1 minute, non-hostile creatures in it (including you) gain a bonus to Dexterity (Acrobatics) and Dexterity (Stealth) checks equal to your Wisdom modifier.
  • Moontouched Steps: Whenever you move, you may expend 2 ki points to dash with supernatural energy. Until the end of your turn, you gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed and any attacks of opportunity against you are made with disadvantage.

Avatar of the Eclipse

By the time you’ve reached 17th level, you can enter the perfected spiritual form of your Twilight Dance, seamlessly and changing back and forth in between these two states. You may do so whenever you change from one state to the other, and when you do, for 1 minute, you are considered to be in both states at the same time, and you have resistance to all non magical damage.

You can use this feature once, regaining the ability to do so again when you finish a long rest, or if you expend 8 ki points to use it again.
